Bucky Larson: Born to be a Star, review
2011, ****, R
Starring: Nick Swardson, Christina Ricci, Kathy McGee, Don Johnson, Stephen Dorff, and Edward Herrmann
I always wondered what happened to Don Johnson, well, now I know, he's directing porn in Hollywood!
Adam Sandler co-wrote this crazy flick, starring his pal Nick Swardson (“Jack and Jill,” “Just Go With It” and “The Benchwarmers”). The film is crude, obnoxious and just plain gross and I love it! I think I needed a good campy, laugh.
You’ve got Bucky (Swardson), a food store clerk who realizes his dream over one evening at his friend’s house. The larger rabbit-like front toothed dude realizes his parents were former famous Hollywood 70s porn stars, and within a few moments knows what his destiny is – to become a famous porn star.
He soon packs, and heads to Hollywood on a bus. He meets cutie pie waitress at a crappy Diner; Kathy played by Christina Ricci ("Bel Ami," "Casper"). The pair quickly develop a bond, that turns into a supporting, and loving friendship, in a semi-weirdo way. You can’t help but feel bad for Bucky, because he is so naive about the world, and sex. This is definitely a laugh out loud, silly movie, while he rises to stardom via You Tube, and quickly becomes a “small” sort of over-night sensation, pardon the pun.
This one Definitely NOT a Friday night flick for the kids! Adults and bored 18 year olds – maybe. A must watch if crude and ridiculous doesn’t bother you. Also, if you have seen the black comedy, “Pumpkin,” starring Christina Ricci, well, it kinda reminds me of that film, however, ‘Larson’ is more humorous, and is not by any means a black comedy.
