Buddy, The Elf, As Host of the 2010 SNL Christmas Special: A Reality or A Hopeful Request?
A Christmas Lover's Dream
As a lover of the Christmas season myself, I was overjoyed to join ["like"] the
"Dear SNL, Please Let Buddy the Elf Host the 2010 SNL Christmas Special"
group on facebook. The group that now has over 166,000 members is hopeful that Saturday Night Live will allow both Will Ferrell as "Buddy, The Elf," as well as Chevy Chase as "Clark Griswold" to co-host the 2010 Christmas Special. Could this idealistic dream become a reality? I, as well as millions of other Christmas lovers, have grown to include the movie, "Elf," as one of their all-time favorite Christmas movies. Also, I would go on to say that most of these peopleĀ would also include "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" as another all-time favorite Christmas movie. For me, it doesn't feel like Christmas time unless I get a chance to see these two movies, whether it be me lying down in bed by myself in my pajamas with a warm cup of hot chocolate watching the movies, or with a group of friends/family watching the movies while we eat spaghetti & syrup. How awesome would it be to have two of our favorite Christmas time characters to host the Saturday Night Live 2010 Christmas Special? The answer: It would be AMAZING.
I am not sure whether or not this idea was created by a fan or by someone who already knows of future plans to have Will Ferrell & Chevy Chase to host the SNL Christmas Special as Buddy & Clark, but either way, it is an idea worth taking action for it to become a reality.
The Fans' Response
After the facebook group was created, it obviously has sparked an infectious response, of many getting excited about the possibilities of having "Buddy, The Elf" to host to the 2010 SNL Christmas Special, seeing the over 166,000 members. In turn it has influenced many to post pictures to the facebook page and has also inspired many to take action by writing articles in magazines, newspapers, etc, as well as for many to start topics on message boards, including the NBC message board, concerning the efforts of the facebook page.
The facebook group has very clearly inspired me to write this article as well, and I would love nothing more than for the request of BUDDY to become the Host of the 2010 SNL Christmas Special to be granted. And I must say, I am extremely entertained by the fans' responses on the facebook group page, especially by the pictures posted by the fans. Call me crazy for being so amused by the responses, but I couldn't help but 'facebook stalk' the page a little bit to see the silly photos that were posted.
To the right, I have included many of the photos that fans created in response to the facebook group's request for "Buddy, The Elf" to host the Christmas Special. As you can see, many of the photos use video captures of other SNL episodes and superimpose the face of "Buddy, The Elf" into the picture, while others are just pictures of the faces of the fans themselves. I have made sure to include my favorite fan picture below.
I have included my Top 3 PICKS of the fan photos below. As entertaining as the photos of the superimposed faces are, I chose three photos that really capture the LOVE that the fans have for BUDDY through their efforts that go beyond what you can do sitting at a computer using Photoshop or other photo editing programs. Who knows, maybe there will be more fan photos added before Christmas that will entertain us even more, but for now, these are quite entertaining enough.

My Response As A Fan
Many have chosen ways that they would like to promote this request and have fun sharing with others their excitement about the possibilities of Buddy being the host for the Christmas Special, and in addition to showing my interest/passion about this topic through my writing, I would like to respond by sharing a very special Christmas Tradition that me and my friends in Ohio have started, which accents our love for the movie, "Elf." Here it is:
Each year, The NIGHT BEFORE The Night Before Christmas is a new special day for me and my friends. A couple years ago I was a leader for my church's youth group, and we started a Christmas Tradition by meeting at a Starbucks in our Christmas Pajamas to read "The Night Before Christmas" all together, and many of us wore elf hats and Santa hats. Last year, we carried on the same tradition while adding a new touch to this tradition by watching the movie, "Elf," after we read "The Night Before Christmas." We gathered at a friend's home instead of Starbucks last year, and we took turns reading the story from a Pop-up Book of "The Night Before Christmas." But, watching "Elf" together seemed to be the icing on the cake for us to finish the night strong. And something about it being on the NIGHT BEFORE the night before Christmas is just so fun for me. I take joy in the "little things" in life, and I guess with my favorite number being "23," this special gathering on December 23rd has become a favorite day of the year for me.
I encourage you all to share your traditions on the GRAFFITI wall of this article as well as on the NBC message board, sharing ways that "Buddy, The Elf" has become a huge part of our Christmas Traditions. And how much more special would it be to get a fresh view of Buddy and Clark Griswold as host of one of the funniest shows of our generation at Christmas time?
