Betty and Jughead Forever?
In the first episode of Riverdale we are introduced to Betty Cooper and Archie Andrews. Right off the bat the audience is entranced by the two of them and immediately ship them as a couple. However, when Jughead Jones is introduced to the story our minds were immediately changed. The chemistry between Betty and Jughead is undeniable.
Three seasons into Riverdale and they are still together. But is their relationship strong enough to last until the very end? Let's review some key moments of the Bughead relationship.
in season one Betty and Jughead are working together on solving the mystery of who killed Jason Blossom. Their bond grows stronger the more time they spend together. It's clear that Betty is finally getting over Archie and getting closer to Jughead. Jughead's feelings are obviously the same, especially when he kisses Betty. The two of them together in the beginning were so adorable.
When we get to the end of season one we get quite a pleasant shock. Betty and Jughead nearly have sex, making fan girls everywhere jump for joy. However, they were interrupted by Southside Serpents who induct Jughead into their gang essentially. You can see the uncertainty in Betty's eyes as she watches him put on the jacket.
Season 2 was very rocky for Bughead. Jughead was getting deeper into the Southside Serpents while Betty's primary focus was on finding the Black Hood. However, Betty does try to make an effort to show Jughead that she supports him and stands by him. She does the "serpent dance" which is essentially stripping on stage. Instead of being in awe of her Jughead is not happy. In fact, he breaks up with Betty afterwards.
Betty being distraught eventually kisses Archie and Jughead does stuff with fellow serpent member Tony Topaz. People everywhere were shocked by these events and we were all convinced that this would be the end of Bughead.
Eventually, they reunite and forgive one another. They both admit what they did with other people and in a way, this honesty makes them stronger. We end season two with Jughead asking Betty to join the serpents and be his serpent queen. She agrees.
Finally, we've made it to season three. It's all about the gargoyle king so there really hasn't been that many Bughead interactions. Betty was sent to the Sister's of quiet Mercy mental institution and Jughead skipped town with Archie whose on the run. Will spending all this time apart and each battling their own demons tear them apart or will their bond remain forever? I guess we'll have to wait and see.
