Chronicle
2012, ***, PG-13
Starring: Alex Russell, Dane DeHaan, Michael B. Jordan
“Chronicle” is about three high school boys who stumble up cross a hole in the ground outside of a rave party and something supernatural happens to the three of them when they're in the hole. Two cousins and the school Council President, likely become friends once they realize they've each acquired special powers to move things, fly, among other supernatural gifts. They start to explore and figure out what has happened to them and soon they the powers get beyond their control.
This flick is probably one of the most enticing movies that I've seen over the last five years regarding individuals that are human that acquire special powers. It's not your typical Superman or comic book hero. It's your average 16 year old high school student that is having fun because they've acquired these powers and they find a sigh of relief that there's some hope to their existence; while the typical high school student struggles to find themselves. These boys soon realize that anything is possible, and their future looks very bright because of the skills that they've acquired.
However, acquiring such powers and capabilities that the average human does not have come with a serious price, and bad things start to come their way and several people die in the midst of various fits of anger and rage, and their powers turn against them.
The movie keeps you fully engaged and involved, and leaves room for a sequel or possibly a few other movies. I'm not sure what could be done differently in a sequel because the movie in itself I think is kind of a classic, coming-of-age high school, fantasy-drama, and I'm not sure a sequel would even do it justice. However because it is the movie industry I am sure they will do a sequel and I will definitely go watch the movie, just because this one was very good.
You can check out “Chronicle” now On Demand through Comcast or at your Red Box. I don’t believe it is on Netflix.
