Comic Book Movies of 2012! Which Superheroes Will Hit The Silver Screen In The New Year! Plus Movie Trailers
Is the superhero trend in Hollywood dying down? 2011 saw a pretty heavy dose of movies based off of comic books, and superheroes lit up the silver green with superheroes we've yet to see in live action! Green Lantern, Thor and Captain America all made their movie debuts in 2011, as well as Havok in X-Men: First Class.
So what's in store for 2012? Well, it doesn't seem like there will be any superheroes making their first appearance in theaters, but the outlook for comic book movies in 2012 has three highly anticipated movies for a lot of comic geeks like me.
Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance
This is really the least anticipated comic book related movie of 2012. Most really don't care about another Ghost Rider sequel, and the trailer really doesn't spark any interest in me to go see it. If Green Lantern didn't so great at the box office in 2011, I don't see this one doing any better.
Actually, I'd be really surprised if it did do well. The first movie was not so great, and not strong enough to build a franchise on. Let's face it. Most comic geeks saw this movie because it was well...a comic book movie. It was a new character on screen and a character most people had yet to see.
Maybe the first Ghost Rider did do well at the box office, mainly out of sheer dumb curiosity, but I'm sure they left slapping their foreheads like me afterwards. Actually, the only thing I didn't regret about that movie was Eva Mendez, who is always great to look at.
So, next year, in my opinion, we start off the comic book movies with a soft or weak superhero flick. Don't worry, however, things do get better next year.

The Avengers Movie
Thank God, this movie is coming out in May right after Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance! Among comic book fans, this is perhaps the most anticipated movie ever! Why? Because it's the first comic book cross-over flick ever attempted, merging a whole slew of comic book characters into one amazing and fantastic film.
Just like there's a lot of high hopes that the Avengers movie will be extremely bad ass, there's also a lot doubts of whether this new kind of formula for comic book movies will actually work.
Besides, there's always the big question for comic fans: The Hulk? How is Marvel going to portray this beast now?, The first two times we saw the emerald giant was less than satisfactory to many fans.
Yes, there's a chance the movie can suck big time. Especially for hard-core comic fans who have a higher expectation in translating a comic book to the screen. Personally, I have great hopes for the Avengers movie.
Whether you're a comic geek or not, this movie will be one of the movies to see in 2012.

G.I. Joe Retaliation
The first movie got harshed on quite a lot, but I liked it. It served it's purposed, and yes I did grow up on the action figures with the "kung fu grip" as well as the Marvel/Hasbro cartoons.
This sequel will host a whole new set of characters. Actually, the only characters that are returning in this sequel is Duke, Snake Eyes, Zartan, and Storm Shadow.
New characters will be Lady Jaye played by Adrianne Palick, Road Block (Dwayne Johnson "The Rock"), Flint (D.J. Cotrona), and others. Unfortunately the Baroness won't be in the new sequel. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Sienna Miller in tight outfits and as a raven-haired beauty.
Oh, well. This sequel will be interesting. I just hope the cast dynamic will be good, and what's up with Storm Shadow? Didn't he die in the first film? Look, I know you can't have a G.I. Joe film without the Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow rivalry, but I hope they don't make up some lame reason why Storm Shadow didn't die in the first one.

The Amazing Spider-Man
This is probably one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2012 as well. Purely, because the franchise is re-booting the character. It seems Marvel is following DC/Warner for once, as the Batman re-boots were highly successful.
Can this Spider-Man measure up to the previous films? I think the curiosity factor alone will make this flick have a huge box office opening. Everyone's curious about whether Andrew Garfield will portray a great Peter Parker or not, and whether the twist on a classic origin will be satisfactory to comic fans and non-comic fans.
I think Marvel will follow DC/Warner's recipe, and make this re-boot a lot darker than the original movies. After all, the Lizard finally gets the spotlight in this movie as the films baddie. I think that alone is worth going to see.

Batman Rise of the Dark Knight
The new and last Batman movie of this series has a lot of factors involved with it's anticipated release. Some good and some bad curiosity falls into place here.
First off, Chris Nolan has done an astounding job on the re-booted series. The Dark Knight film was a phenom, and the 10th highest grossing film of all time! Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker is, perhaps, one of the greatest.
I'm sorry to say that Heath Ledger set the bar for any Batman villain to come after. Batman The Dark Knight Rises will have Bane as a villain, which is a good choice, as the character is the only comic book villain to have ever broken The Batman.
The new and last installment of the Dark Knight has a lot of high expectations following it's predecessor The Dark Knight. I don't think it will match up. Not to say it wont be good. I'm sure it will be.
Another question that seems to have a lot of people scratching their heads about is Anne Hathaway as Catwoman. There's no doubt that DC/Warner has not yet to get Catwoman's character right on the silver screen. Also, more heavy weight diva actors such as Halle Barry and Michelle Pfeiffer did less than favorably in this role.
I'm sure a lot of people are wondering just how good of a Catwoman Anne Hathaway will be. I'm looking forward to this movie, and I'm sure it will be worth seeing. However, I'm not expecting it to be as great as the first two films.

This re-boot should make my brother quite happy, as he was a huge Judge Dredd fan back in the day. I'm not surprised that movie land decided to revisit this character, as the character is interesting and badass enough.
In all actuality, I did not think the Sylvester Stallone version released in 1995 was that bad. I actually enjoyed it and think Sly did a superb job portraying the "Dirty Harry" cop of the future, in which the character was modeled off of.
Will this re-boot stack up? Perhaps. I think it just may, even though Sly won't be revisiting the role and Karl Urban will be filling those big boots. It will be awesome to see this character on the screen again.
