Dennis Hopper
Dennis Hopper May 17, 1936 – May 29, 2010
Hollywood rebel and legend Dennis Hopper died aged 74 on May 29, 2010 at his home in Venice, California due to complications from prostate cancer. Icons of the cinema, Dennis Hopper movies sit prominently amongst some of Hollywood's most acclaimed films. To younger movie audiences he was probably best known as the bomb building villain in the first Speed movie, opposite Keanu Reeves. However, it was the earlier Dennis Hopper movies that had the biggest impact on cinema, particularly in 1969’s Easy Rider, which Dennis Hopper both directed and starred in.
Early in his career Dennis Hopper appeared with James Dean in ‘Rebel Without a Cause' in 1955 and Giant in 1956. Other Dennis Hopper movies of note include ‘Apocalypse Now’, ‘Blue Velvet’ and ‘Hoosiers’. On March 26 2010 Dennis Hopper finally received a star on the Hollywood walk of fame.
Dennis Hopper’s history of drug and alcohol abuse meant he was never far from the headlines. He remained in the media in recent years, especially for his very public divorce from Victoria Duffy, who he claimed was "insane", "inhuman" and "volatile" and early in 2010 was granted a restraining order from her.
Hopper was married 5 times and is survived by four children
Since the 1960's Dennis Hopper was also an acclaimed photographer in his own right as well as a painter and sculptor. Dennis Hopper photography has continued to make a name for itself in the art world following his death.

Dennis Hopper Photography
While Dennis Hopper movies are widely known for their cultural impact, particularly Easy Rider, Dennis Hopper photography has also become renowned in the art world. Of his photography, Dennis Hopper is said to have felt more creative satisfaction than with his films. He also thought that it would be Dennis Hopper photography, not movies that would have more of a cultural impact.
At his creative peak in the 1960's, Hopper took his camera everywhere. Because of his intuitive and creative eye and the turbulent nature of the time, Dennis Hopper photography captured some striking moments in political and cultural upheaval.
