Ellie Goulding: Newer Updated Version for Album, Halcyon Days
Ellie Goulding ‘lit’ Charts in 2011; current album Halcyon Days
Just the other day, on Facebook Goulding says she is very happy to announce her involvement in the soundtrack for the film Divergent. She is excited for the fans to hear her song "Beating Heart," and her “wee voice throughout the film.”
On April 29, 2011, Ellie Goulding performed Elton John’s song – “Your Song” for the royals at the wedding reception of Prince William and Kate Middleton at Buckingham Palace – wow – what an honor that was! Her cover of Elton’s song had reached number two in the UK in December 2010. Also just a few months ago her song “Mirror,” was featured in the second The Hunger Games installment - Catching Fire.
Her music is a blend of pop with a lighter feel – a blend of the whimsical light-dark grit of “A Thousand Years” singer Christina Perry, and the fiery-smooth songstress Ms. Adele Adkins. Elena Jane "Ellie" Goulding is an English singer-songwriter. She signed with Polydor Records in 2009 and shortly after released her first EP in 2009 called, An Introduction to Ellie Goulding. Then she released her debut studio album, Lights, in 2010. The album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and has sold over 850,000 copies in the UK. Ellie, also like British singer Adele (who won these awards in 2008) won the BBC annual Sound poll and won the Critics’ Choice Award at the Brit Awards in the same year.
She’s only 25, and she’s her hit single “Lights” in 2011 really turned heads here in the US because of its radio play. It also turned into a great dance version. Goulding as Vanity Fair Magazine puts it is a “…rare British singer who actually sings with a British accent.” She told Vanity Fair that she grew and listened to American singers like Britney Spears, and sang in an American accent – eventually she found her “own voice” and says her songs are brutally honest. Well, we like her vocals with her accent. It is something that we usually don’t hear with British singers – most of the time us Americans, pardon the pun, find out months later - “Oh, I didn’t know she or he (or whoever the artist is) is from the UK.” We all have the same reaction react the same with British singer Adele (even though in Adele’s songs you can hear some British accent just not as much) who is just as amazing as Goulding.
Over the past 2 years Goulding has won a Brit Award, toured with fun-pop singer, Katy Perry, and also performed at Coachella and Lollapalooza festivals. Her famous “Lights” song was a massive hit in her homeland before it got here to the US, and eventually reached number one here on the Billboard music charts. She came out with Halcyon Days in the summer 2013 – the title means – carefree days of youth. This CD features slower romantic songs like “How Long Will I Love You,” and the fiery song more alongside of the song “Lights” demeanor, called “Burn.” “How Long Will I Love You,” was featured in the Rachel McAdams (The Vow, The Notebook, Mean Girls) film romantic Comedy trailer About Time – which is available now to watch on pay per view.
Spin also says that "Hearts without Chains," is a breathless ballad that she wrote with Fraser T. Smith – he also wrote the Adele song, "Set Fire to the Rain." Ellie’s ‘Halcyon Days,’ also has songs where she collaborates with Tinje Tempa and Calvin Harris. The album is essentially some new songs and the entire Halcyon album that came out in 2012. Goulding says this is a “breakup record.” She told Spin, “Every song ended up being a frustration or confusion…” And she glad she was able to put it on a record. It has made her feel “less lonely.”
Artist Chloe Howl will be going on Ellie’s 2014 tour as an opening act.
