Epigramman - A Tribute

Updated on May 17, 2012

He is known by all who love prose as the “Epigramman”

But I knew him when he was “Colin” a mere gentle-man

My buddy, my mate who never agitates nor grates

Nor ever starts a storm to stir the present peaceful state

He’s an affectionate guy who always cares

By all rights he’s a downright teddy bear

Like a Canadian Maple, he stands solidly without sin

And has a mild mannered gentle soul within

Where do I begin without making him appear thin

To explain the worth of a man 10,000 miles away?

For those who have not yet read his prose

It will be hard but I can only try I suppose

His sense of humor can take you unawares

And some of his expressions are quaint like when he says

“That’s a good point you’re making there.....”

Which makes you feel special without compare.

Of course, there is the element of surprise or shock

When he labels his cat a “terrorist” around the block

After successfully spilling his full bottle of beer

Which lands the poor feline in the cold, near Lake Erie

The worth of this man is infinite as the number of stars

He sets an example of hope even for those whose life is marred

That you’re never too old, too lonely, too far away or too poor

To love and be loved if only you allow people through your door

Colin, you’ve been immortalized in your collection of poems

They’ve even painted your portrait in which you’re not alone

You live in the Ontario wilderness and I think I know why

You’re waiting for that lovely Lady of Lake Erie to come by.

Thank you A.A.Zavala - I know you like to stir Colin - we all do, but he knows that deep down we all love him as a friend and esteemed literary colleague. And yes, he does like beer, women and song. LOLOL

"Like a Canadian Maple, he stands solidly without sin." You're talking about Colin?

Yes, Colin is a treasure. I'm not sure about the sinning part, but I do know he likes beer. And women. And he's a best friend to all. Such a fitting tribute...

I wish to extend my sincere gratitude to you Colin for introducing me (your humble and aspiring apprentice), to some of your esteemed colleagues. What an honour it has been to be reviewed by such great writers here at HubPages. It has been my pleasure to reciprocate and read some of their hubs which have been so positively inspirational. Cheers, Maria.

Thanks Colin, it's all your fault. You've finally succeeded in luring me back here after all this time by tugging at my poetic strings. Let's just say that you're an influential kind of guy.

This is such a beautifully written tribute! Colin, from a distance you have gained our respect and love with your humor, thoughtfulness, and wonderful writing. No day is complete for me without reading your expressive pieces which are most often funny, sometimes kinky, and many times so tender and lovely that they bring tears. You are a blessing to us all. Cheers!
