'The Notebook'

This film is a classic, and a major tear-jerker, so If you haven't already seen it, be prepared with a box of tissue nearby! The movie chronicles the post WWII love that Duke (Garner) felt for Allie (Rowlands). Depite their deep love, the relationship gets derailed and their lives take different paths. The story unfolds as Duke reads to Allie from a notebook that re-tells their love story. Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling play Duke and Allie when they were young lovers. Excellent chick flick stuff!

The plot of 'Lake House' is a creative blend of Love Story and Fantasy, and perfect for a girl's night in. It goes like this: Kate (played by Bullock) and Alex (Keanu Reeves) utilize the mailbox at a Lake House to exchange love notes.
It all begins when Kate moves out of the Lake House. She receives a letter that has been forwarded through the U.S Mail to her from a man named Alex that sparks an exchange of letters. This all seems perfectly normal until Kate realizes that their letters are two years out of sync. As their communication continues via this magic mailbox,their infatuation with one another grows and they begin to dream as to how they might rendezvous in the same year. This well-crafted, time-travel chick flick confirms the belief that "timing is everything" and that love knows no boundaries, including time.

But just as she starts to fall for him, Amanda is stopped in her tracks because she thinks she sees him commit a cold-blooded crime. Should she believe her heart or her eyes? One of her airhead model roomies opines, "He's way too cute to be a killer."

Vianne, (Binoche) is a chocolatier, who crosses paths with (Depp), an Irish Gypsy. The two become entangled in a story that combines the peddling of Vianne's sweet confections and steamy love scenes.
Chocolat portrays the challenge of a female entrepreneur just trying to earn a living by selling her chocolates to the villagers of a small French town. The problem is, the villagers believe that chocolate is a sinful indulgence they must resist. Luckily, there is a magical property in Vianne's chocolates that make them irresistible (similar to Johnny Depp!). Chocolate, sensual magic and Johnny Depp. Girlfriends, need I say more?
'The Holiday'

Holiday movie, yes, but this movie is perfect to enjoy any month of the year! The plot unfolds as two successful women who don't know each other, Amanda (Diaz) and Iris (Winslet), decide they need to escape their disappointing lives for the holidays through a house-swap.
Since our true love might live where we aren't, doesn't it make sense that magic could happen on a vacation? Of course! So that's where Graham (Law) and Miles (Black) come in....each a puzzle piece needed to complete a larger picture. You never know, 'The Holiday' just might spark a house swap of your own!

In '50 first dates', Lucy (Barrymore) doesn't have to dwell on her past failures in love, because she suffers from short term memory loss. Unfortunately, she can't remember the good love stuff either!
When Henry (Sandler), a notorious womanizer, realizes that Lucy doesn't remember who he is after their first date, he is intrigued and becomes obsessed on making her remember him. Even though this all takes place on an island paradise where Henry has been enjoying grass-skirt chasing, he loses interest in his other bachelor pursuits and ends up going on '50 first dates' with just Lucy. In the midst of his challenge, he realizes he is falling for Lucy. The movie is sweet and funny, and even though Sandler may seem like an unlikely leading man for a romantic comedy, I promise you, you'll love him in the end.
'The Proposal'

This is a satisfying role reversal, with Margaret (Bullock) and Andrew (Reynolds) as the female work-a-holic boss and her sexy male underling. Margaret and Andrew become "engaged" to avoid Margaret being deported to Canada because of a Visa snafu. Things snowball and become quite funny as Margaret finds herself meeting Andrew's family in Alaska. Things get complicated in Alaska, the "engaged" couple find themselves in compromising situations, and....well.... just rent the movie and see.

What could be more romantic than Verona, Italy, the place where Romeo and Juliet first met? This is where Sophie (Seyfried), who works as a fact-checker for The New Yorker, is on a pre-honeymoon with her fiance, Victor (Bernal). Staying true to his work-aholic nature, Victor can't tear himself away from planning his new restaurant, so Sophie finds herself helping a group of Italian ladies answer letters written by the lovelorn looking for love advice. (In keeping with a long tradition, the letters are left in a wall in a courtyard and the "Secretaries of Juliet" answer each letter in the spirit of the fictional love icon.)
The adventure begins when Sophie finds a letter from 1957 that had gotten buried in the courtyard wall, and she decides to seek out the woman who wrote the letter, Claire (Redgrave). Sophie winds up on a quest to help Claire find her long-lost lover, Lorenzo (Nero). Claire's grandson, Charlie (Egan), begrudingly joins in the search which makes it an adventure filled with emotional twists and turns.
The scenery in this movie is breath-taking and the storyline incredibly romantic and heart-warming. I dare you to watch this chick flick just once!

This enduring 1989 chick flick is the ultimate teen romance. 'Say Anything' is a funny yet dramatic snapshot of that short period of time between graduation and the start of real life. In this movie, boy succeeds in getting girl who is in a different league. Lloyd (Cusak) is an underachiever kick-boxer who sets his sites on Diane (Syke), a highly intelligent yet socially inexperienced braniac. Lloyd's challenge is to find a way to express his love for Diane before she leaves for college in England. Takes a girl back to that period of time when she is on the cusp of adulthood and romantically believes that love really can conquer all. Sigh.

She winds up buying a Villa on a whim, in an effort to seek out a new life. Renovation of the villa follow, and her life evolves into a whirlwind of activity full of interesting characters. She becomes a part of the town, forges new friendships and rediscovers her sensuality. This is a great chick flick that shows there is life after heartbreak at any age.
