A List of our Favorite Kids Movies
Our youngest and oldest.
When you have five kids in your family, you get the chance to view a lot, and I mean a lot of kids movies. Over the years, we have developed our favorites from among the thousands which have been produced over the years. I imagine you have seen the vast majority of them, but pehaps have forgotten them, or not watched them in a while. So, sit back and remember; or maybe, enjoy for the first time. These will only be trailers, so to enjoy the full movie you will have to find them in another format, either purchase, rent, or view online.
I will begin with a true classic that has sadly been left in the closet. Almost everyone knows the song, but not from the movie. What a tragedy. Walt Disney was the king of family movies, and this was one of the best. Why they will not release this is a question only they can answer.
Song of the South
If you are great enough, you get a sequel. What does that say if you get TWO sequels? While all three are great, the first is our favorite. Introducing some truly unforgettable characters, we all fell in love with Woody, Buzz, and the rest.
Toy Story
Does it seem like Pixar is the Walt Disney of our time? Producing truly wonderful movies everyone can enjoy. This one is no exception. When I spoke with a co-worker about this movie, they told me it was horrible. When we viewed it ourselves, I could understand why someone who cannot read between the lines would not enjoy it, but watch it for what it is, and for what it can tell us about ourselves.
One of our family favorites, this charmer tells of family love, and the abilities we have to persevere in the face of adversity. Our son loves it, and we do too.
Not all family movies are computer generated, or cartoons. Some actually are cast with real people! We just love to watch this crazy movie, and while the storyline may not be the best in the world, the disguises are absolutely hilarious.
Again, Pixar comes through again and again with true classic kids movies. This one will stand the test of time, and our children's children will love it just as much as our children do now. Cars has an all star cast, and a really fun storyline for the family.
Hey you guys! The truffle shuffle. Setting boodie traps. One Eyed Wille. All those memorable names, lines, and characters we all fell in love with. You cannot help but enjoy this movie time and again, and we have for almost thirty years now. It is just as fresh today as it was back then.
Zathura! Zathura! Just saying it slow and low sends a tremble along your spine. By the author of The Polar Express and Jumanji, Chris Van Allsburg, this is truly a treasure. We might love The Polar Express a little bit more, but it is more well known, so I thought I might give this one a nod to all my hub friends. And, you will see Bella of Twilight before she was a vampire!
In this movie, there are only a couple of live performances. One is by a highly successful child actor (Macaulay Culkin) and the other by a massively overlooked character actor who has appeared in so many movies, it is almost ridiculous (Christopher Lloyd). And it stresses reading to our youth! How can you not love it!
A mammoth; a saber tooth tiger; and a sloth. Now, add in a human baby, a semi rabid squirrel like creature running amok, and you have the makings of a major feature that has spawned several sequels. Our favorite scene is the point where they are sledding down through the ice tubes, at first scared, then exhilarated.
This is one of the most enjoyable, yet under-valued films I have ever seen. The scenes are cartoon characters, yet they seem real. A wonderful cast including Jennifer Anniston and Vin Diesel, it is a heart warming story of a boy and his......giant!
Do you have the Cheese Touch? Do you know someone who does? Stay away! Run away from the cheese! It's got a hair on it! How can you not smile time and again at the demented cast and charaters of this wonderful movie about family, friendship, and middle school. Every member of our family absolutely loves this movie, and the sequels. I think we all love Rowley the best, though.
