Professor Ray Golding and Theodore Kuchar were the first people to initiate The Australian Festival of Chamber Music (AFCM) in July 199. They held the first festival in Townsville where both of them lived and worked. Professor Golding was a former Vice Chancellor of James Cook University and Theodore was the first Artistic Director for the festival.
