Five Cartoon Shows I Enjoy Watching With My Children

Updated on January 12, 2012

So my kids found out that I wrote about the five cartoons I don’t let them watch and they reminded me that there were many more that I banned from the television not to mention the ones that I refuse to watch with them.  They also suggested that I talk about the five cartoon shows that I like to watch with them.  Because that would only be fair, so in their honor I am going to do just that.  Yes there are some good cartoons out there.  These of course are not educational cartoons which to me are tops because not only are those fun to watch but children learn something from them too (think School House Rock).  The cartoons that I have chosen are not educational but are still fun and do not go overboard with adult humor or a lot of negativity.  These shows I do not mind watching with my kids because they are fun and funny.

PHINEAS AND FERB – Phineas and Ferb is a Disney show about two step brothers trying to make the best of their summer.  The two try and do something new each and every day of their summer vacation.  They have a pet platypus named Perry who is really a secret agent. They also have an older sister Candace that spends her time trying to bust Phineas and Ferb in every episode but always fails because their mother shows up too late to see what Phineas and Ferb have done that day.  I like this show because it shows the dynamics between siblings and the two boys come up with some really outlandish ideas to keep them busy; nothing like having a great imagination.

BACK AT THE BARNYARD – Back at the Barnyard is a Nickelodeon show which is a spinoff of the movie Barnyard.  The show is about Otis the cow and his friends; Abby and Bessy both cows, Duke a dog, Pip a mouse, Pig a pig, Peck a rooster and Freddy a ferret.  The show is of the animals adventures and always takes an interesting twist.  This show is kid friendly although there are some innuendos. I like this show because it is fun as the animals get into different predicaments.

PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR – The Penguins of Madagascar is ashow on Nickelodeon and based on the movie Madagascar but focusing more on the penguins from the movie.  The penguins are Skipper the leader, Kowalski, Private and Rico.  Each penguin has its own purpose.  The show also includes the Lemurs; King Julien, Maurice and Mort and Marlene the otter and Mason and Phil who are chimpanzees.  I enjoy this show because I really like the penguins each has a different skill that lends itself to different missions.

THE SECRET SHOW – The Secret Show is actually a cartoon from the BBC Network that is shown on Nicktoons. The Secret Show is about a secret organization whose commander changes his name daily for security reasons.  The organization staffs Anita Knight and Victor Volt as two secret agents and Professor Professor as the scientist and inventor.  Together the organization uses their talents to fight various threats.  I like this show because it is very quirky and funny.  I enjoy hearing what the commander’s name is going to be for each and every show.

FAIRLY ODD PARENTS – Fairly Odd Parents is a show on Nickelodeon that is about a young boy and his fairy godparents.  Timmy Turner is a ten year old boy and Wanda and Cosmo are his fairy godparents.  Wanda and Cosmo grants Timmy wishes to help him in different situations.  I enjoy this show because it speaks to the child in me that always wished her wishes could be granted instantly.

Yes I can be a kid too especially when it comes to watching cartoons. But I definitely have to get something out of the show.  These shows keep me interested because to me they are funny and fun to watch.  So I will continue to let my kids watch these cartoons and any other cartoon that I enjoy watching as well.
