Lilly Singh a.k.a. IISuperwomanII Should be the Fresh Queen of Bel-Air

Updated on August 20, 2015

In a world where new media is taking over old media within the millenial bracket, we're seeing the quick rise of Youtube celebrities. One of these new celebrities is Toronto native Lilly Singh a.k.a. iiSuperwomanii. She has over 6 million subscribers and has just recently completed a world tour. She was also nominated for two Teen Choice Awards in the Youtube categories. Obviously, Lilly is doing something right.

Maybe it's because she speaks to the millions of South Asian youths co-opting two cultures, living in the west and holding onto traditions. She hones in on her Sikh Punjabi background, which is where most of her humor derives. She has all the components to be a big star here in the USA and worldwide. She's funny, she can write and rap her own music, she's relateable and attractive.

So what does this have to do with the reboot of Fresh Prince of Bel Air? Will Smith and Co are thinking of recreating the show for a new generation, and I think this new generation deserves a cool, energetic, musically inclined young female in the role. The creators of Boy Meets World did it, spinning off Girl Meets World with a female lead. So, why can't Will Smith re-create a new version of his show with a slightly different premise. Lilly Singh will be moving from her native Toronto to sunny L.A. in the next couple of months, and it would be interesting to explore the theme of a fish out of water through her eyes, being that she's a Canadian Sihk female who can spit a verse or two.

Still not convinced that she has everything is takes to be a household name and star as lead in a TV show? Watch her latest rap that she wrote, performed, filmed and edited on her own. The song has a very "Parents just don't understand" vibe. And I'm into it.
