Gotham Season 1 Episode 1: Pilot
When I first read about this series online, I was excited, but also a bit worried. Worried that fans wouldn't allow a show set in Gotham to not be focused on Batman. But is seems to be going pretty well. I like seeing little Bruce on the show, but am also very glad he's a supporting character and not the main focus. This is both a criminal investigation drama that just happens to be set in Gotham, and a set-up/backdrop for all the things Gotham is associated with and will come to entail in the future. Gotham is the true star of this show. The Pilot is good, but it also is obviously more of an introduction and plot builder than an actual story in itself. I quickly like Jim Gordan. And Alfred. Most of the other characters took time to grow on me. Cobblepot here is annoying and not that interesting, but he is one of the most popular and fascinating people midway through the season. I also come to like Bullock over time, but kind of disdain him here. Selina is cute here, but we don't actually know much about her, or care that much at this point. But as the series progresses she comes to be someone we feel protective and hopeful for. I care what happens to Bruce at this point, but can't say I actually care to see what he does next. That changes later on, though not as much as most other characters. This episode is a must watch to get the series. but in itself is only a bit above average television.
