Grooveshark Monthly Mix

Updated on June 13, 2011

What is Grooveshark?

As you may have seen in other hubs, Grooveshark.com is a music playing website where you can find pretty much any song, add it to your own playlists, use radio buttons to have Grooveshark recommend new songs based on what exists in your play list and allow you to build a community of people to share your tastes in music. Grooveshark pays the artist by way of ad revenue and for paid subscriptions (to remove the ads) which allows for users to listen for free.

Monthly Mix

An idea I had soon after I joined Grooveshark by recommendation of a friend was to start a monthly sharing list, much like mixed tapes used to be back in the day. The only rule I had was that the 10 songs chosen had to each come from a different artist. So, my first shared list was in September of 2010 and was made up simply of songs that at that moment I thought of and liked:

Later on I decided to put a theme to the 10 songs chosen:

Crazy on You by Heart is followed by Heart of the Sunrise.

Heart of the Sunrise is followed by Sister Moon

Sister Moon is followed by Lucky Star

Lucky Star is followed by Lucky Adam

Lucky Adam is followed by Goody Two Shoes by Adam Ant

Goody Two Shoes is followed by Blue Suede Shoes

Blue Suede Shoes is followed by Red Jesse Cook

Red is followed by Paint it Black Rolling Stones

Paint it Black is followed by White Room Live Cream

I had already known all of the songs except for the Lucky Adam one and I needed to find a way to link the top group of songs to the bottom, so I did a search in Grooveshark for 'lucky adam' and this song came up.

And more recently I picked an 80s theme:

If you are already a Grooveshark member, why not start a monthly mix that you share with your Grooveshark community? If you aren't a Grooveshark member, why not join? It is a free to use service.

Note that I am in no way affiliated with Grooveshark, I do not receive any payment or recognition for any traffic I send their way.
