Halloween is one of the most exciting holidays of the year. Most kids love dressing up, decorating, and preparing for the spookiest night of the year. Nothing is better than watching Halloween shows and films to get you in the spirit.

Check out this list of the best Halloween movies for kids that the whole family can enjoy. You'll find some classic kids Halloween movies that you probably remember from when you were a child, as well as some more recent Halloween films.

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is an animated film starring the much-loved Peanuts cast.

Each year at Halloween Linus writes a letter to The Great Pumpkin even though Charlie Brown and the rest of the kids are insistent that he does not exist.

While everyone else goes trick-or-treating, Linus goes to the pumpkin patch after persuading Sally to join him. There they await the arrival of The Great Pumpkin. After spending all night in the pumpkin patch, Linus sees a shadowy figure he believes to be The Great Pumpkin and faints. However, the figure was only Snoopy and Sally becomes angry with Linus for wasting her entire Halloween when she could have been out getting candy. Regardless, Linus is declares that The Great Pumpkin will arrive next Halloween.

Garfield's Halloween Adventure

Year Released: 1985

Garfield's Halloween Adventure stars the same lovable characters from the Garfield cartoon. Garfield the cat, Odie the dog, and John the owner of the two are anticipating the arrival of Halloween night. Garfield plans on trick-or-treating and collecting more candy than he has ever seen. Garfield recruits Odie as his trick-or-treating companion and they set out into the night.

The two companions become lost and stumble upon an old broken down house that is said to be haunted. At the stroke of midnight, a gang of pirate ghosts comes to the old mansion for their long lost treasure. Garfield and Odie are more scared than they ever could imagine and are glad to make it out safely and unharmed.

Although this is an animated cartoon for children, it contains some scenes that may be frightening to some young children.

The Corpse Bride is a computer animated film from the interesting and unusual mind of Tim Burton.

The film tells the tale about a young man named Victor (voiced by Johnny Depp) that is being married to a girl named Emily (voiced by Emily Watson). Victor stumbles during his vows to Emily and become embarrased. He takes off into the woods alone and practices speaking his vows. While he's practicing, Victor places the ring onto a twig which turns out to be the corpse bride. She declares that they are now married and Victor must go to the underworld to be with her.

Hocus Pocus Movie Trailer

Hocus Pocus stars Bette Midler, Thora Birch, Kathy Najimy, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Stephanie Faracy. Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker play three witches that become resurrected after having been hung 300 years earlier and begin to terrorize the people of modern day Salem, Massachusetts.

The three witches had a spell that helped to keep them young and attractive. However, to complete the spell, a living child was needed. After a failed attempt one evening to complete their spell, the witches were caught by the townspeople and hung. However, before they were hung, the witches cast a curse which called for their resurrection on Halloween 300 years later should someone light the black flame candle.

Hocus Pocus is Rated PG and may not be suitable for all ages. There are some scenes that may be frightening or mature in nature and not recommended for young children.

The Worst Witch

The Worst Witch stars real life actors and is an entertaining film for the whole family. The film tells the story of a boarding school for witches, and no, it's not Hogwarts. The school's name is Miss Cackle's International Academy for Witches and the movie came some time before Harry Potter was even a thought.

The lessons taught at the boarding school are all related to witch practices like broom flying and creating potions. However, there is one student, Mildred Hubble (Fairuza Balk) can't seem to get anything right and is deemed as "the worst witch." The Grand Wizard is this year's guest of honor for Halloween and Mildred does her best to improve her broom flying abilities before his arrival.

Casper stars real life actors Bill Pullman and Christina Ricci and also includes animated characters, such as Casper nd the other ghosts.

The movie is based on Casper The Friendly Ghost, the classic childhood cartoon. In the film, Kat Harvey (Christina Ricci) and her father (Bill Pullman) are brought to Whipstaff Manor in Friendship, Maine to exorcise the ghosts that have been haunting the manor. These ghost include Casper and his three uncles - Stretch, Fatso and Stinkie who are after a treasure thought to be burried there.

The Haunted Mansion

The Haunted Mansion is a film that stars real life actors, although it combines some amazing computer generated graphics and special effects. The movie stars Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Tilly. In the film, Jim Evers (Eddie Murphy) is co-owner of Evers and Evers Real Estate. his workaholic lifestyle has been taking a tole on the family so he decides to take a small trip with his wife and children.

Just as they're ready to leave for the trip, they receive a phone call and Jim has to make a quick stop at at the Gracey Manor in New Orleans. A rainstorm forces the family to stay for the night and it's not long before the family realizes they have entered a house full of restless spirits.

The Haunted Mansion is Rated PG and not recommended for small children. There may be scenes and characters that could frighten some people.

During a brewing war between good and evil, the family is pulled into a portal where they must face a variety of monsters, ghouls, and other supernatural beings in the parallel world of Halloweentown. The sequel, Halloweentown II, takes place two years later.

Halloweentown is Rated PG and is not recommended for all ages. Some young children may become frightened by scenes in the film.

Like most stories of Winnie the Pooh and The Hundred Acre Wood, this is a tale about true friendship and how, when you have your friends, you can do just about anything.

The legend of the Headless Horseman is that he was a soldier who had his head blown off in a battle during the American Revolutionary War and, as a headless ghost, rides the path in search of his lost head.

These furry creatures power their city of Monstropolis by frightening screams of children. There is a factory known as Monsters Inc. where monsters are produced to go and collect the screams of children by using their closets as portals.

The monsters themselves are afraid that touching a child may be fatal, so they are risking their own lives by travelling through the portals. One day it's noticed that a door had been left open on the "scare floor" and a young girl made her way in. The monsters come to learn that children may not be so scary or life threatening after all.

Not to mention, the hairdo of the bride is famous to this day.

Gremlins is mostly based aroung Christmas time although the cute, creepy little monsters in this film make it an excellent Halloween movie. It may not be well suited for really young children, but most kids and adults will truly love this gem of a film.

Gremlins is about a father that purchases a strange gift for his son that he finds in a shop in Chinatown. The gift is a cute, cuddly little creature that he names Gizmo. Although Gizmo is very interesting and unique, there are certain rules that the owner must follow or there can be terrible consequences. Gizmo is not allowed to get wet, get any direct sunlight, or eat after midnight. Though unintentional, the rules are broken and a group of mean little monsters called Gremlins are hatched and terrorize the town.

This film is Rated PG and not recommended for very small children.

Although there are several Scooby Doo movies, or extra long episodes, Scooby Doo: The Movie stars real life characters(Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Mathew Lillard, Rowan Atkinson, Linda Cardellini).

In Scooby Doo: The Movie the Mystery Inc. gang is reuinited after having split up some time earlier. The group (Fred, Vilma, Shaggy, Daphne, and Scooby Doo) go to Spooky Island to investigate some hauntings and paranormal activity. Although the group runs into trouble along the way, the mystery is solved and Mystery Inc. gets back together to continue hunting for ghosts and solving mysteries.

This film is Rated PG. It contains some ghosts and monsters that may be frightening to some and is not recommended for very young children.
