Happy Birthday John Lennon
John Lennon
John Lennon was born on October 9, 1940. He would turn a grand ole 70 years of age tomorrow, if we were fortunate to still have him among us.
John Lennon was killed on December 8, 1980. That day to many of us is remembered as a part of us dying too.
John and his wife, Yoko Ono, were returning to their home,The Dakota Apartments, in New York City. As the entered the building, John was shot four times in the back. He was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead on arrival (DOA).
He was then cremated and ashes spread at Central Park of New York City by his wife. A memorial appropriately named "Strawberry Fields Memorial " was later formed.
The man who shot and killed Mr. Lennon deserves no credit for his actions, I won't give him the recognition of his wrongdoings. Therefore his name will not be mentioned here. What I will say is he only got charged with 20 years in prison but continues to be denied parole.
John Lennon of course was apart of the legendary band The Beatles. However, I don't wish to tell you his bio or accomplishments. I want to tell you about him, who I feel he was. His feelings and hopes for this world. What I feel about being robbed of a man with a true passion to have peace among the world.
A Message From Yoko For His 70th.
Yoko and John held many "bed-in" protests. Film crews surrounded their bodies as they lay in bed speaking of peace.
The highly controversial Vietnam War was in full force. In 1969, John and Yoko protested by staying in bed for two weeks. Bed-Ins for Peace is what they were called and it was their non-violent way of protesting war and promoting peace.
Another Bed-in was when they were married among others. Although the media made a joke of it and did not choose to listen to the true message, the fans were intrigued and followed suit. John and Yokos Bed-ins have been recreated, imitated and sang through lyrics of top musicians for years.
The message was heard.
John was a passionate man. He felt strongly about peace among all.
I think the song, ' Imagine' sums up his true feelings. I have included the lyrics. Read through them, apply them to todays world.
Has anything changed?
Has the World become a better place?
Is there peace?
Imagine
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
I'm afraid the world is still full of dreamers Mr. Lennon. Dreamers like myself that still hope someday that the world will be one.
Happy Birthday great man, I still believe in your message and will continue to imagine...
A world without war
A world without corruption
A world with a trustful Goverment
A world free of hunger
A world with Healthcare for all
A world without abuse
I will continue to imagine sir' - and I will join you.
God Bless Mr.Lennon...May you rest in peace.
