1) Andaz Apna Apna
One of the finest comedies of Hindi cinema, directed by Raj Kumar Santosh and starring Aamir Khan and Salman Khan. Though not a huge success when released in 1994, its audience has only grown since. It's a story about two con-men men scheming for the hand of an heiress, eventually having to save her from an evil criminal. Their efforts to woo the heiress fail in very funny ways.

2) Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro
This 1983 film was directed by Kundan Shah and stars Naseeruddin Shah, Ravi Baswani, Om Puri, Pankaj Kapur, and man others. It is a a "black comedy" and satire that exposes corruption in Indian politics, bureaucracy, media, and businesses. Shah won the 1984 Indira Gandhi Award for the best debut film, and Indiatimes Movies ranks it among the "Top 25 Must-See Bollywood Films."
The film centers on the struggle of two young men trying to make a living in the city as photographers, who accidentally stumble on a murder plot. The film's climax takes place when the two main characters, along with a corpse, insert themselves into a production of Mahabhart. Check it out in the video below - it's a sequence you won't forget! Fun facts about JBDY: Vidhu Vinod Chopra played Dushasana in the Mahabharata play in the climax of the movie. He was also there as a photographer in the first half of the film, when a bunch of journalists were interviewing Tarneja, played by Pankaj Kapoor.
3) Hera Pheri
Directed by Priyardarshan and starring Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar, and Suniel Shetty. This film is the highpoint of Akshay's career, showing his talent as a comedian. In this hilarious movie, three unemployed men find the answer to their money problems when they receive a call from a kidnapper. However, their scheme goes wrong in the funniest way imaginable. You won't be able to stop laughing from all the funny lines, like these:

4) Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi
This classic 1958 comedy has the superb cast of Ashok Kumar, Anoop Kumar, and Kishore Kumar as well as the beautiful Madhubala. In this film, three woman-hating brothers own and run a garage together and have their lives turned upside down when two of the brothers fall in love with a beautiful heiress whose car needs repairs.The film is filled with hilarious comedic situations and wonderful songs like “Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaagi Si.”
Fun Facts: Kishore Kumar made the movie hoping it would fail, thus allowing him to avoid paying a huge income tax bill. The film turned out to be the second-highest grossing release of that year.
5) Half Ticket
Directed by Kalidas, this 1962 Bollywood classic stars Kishore Kumar, Madhubala, Helen and Pran and is based on the American film You're Never Too Young. In this hysterical comedy, a diamond thief hides his booty on an innocent child, who turns out to be an adult posing as a child in order to buy a half-priced train ticket. This mistake forces the thief to ever-more outlandish schemes to recover his stolen diamonds - a situation that leads to a number of wacky misadventures.
6) Chasme Buddoor
This superb romantic comedy is directed by Sai Pranjapee and stars Farooq Sheikh, Ravi Baswani, Rakesh Bedi, and Deepti Navel. The perfect movie for bachelors living with friends. The story centers on two womanizing slackers who fail to woo their new neighbor. When their nerdy roommate succeeds, the two plot to break the lovers up.
Fun Facts: Ali Zafar, Taapsee Pannu, Divyendu Sharma, Siddharth Narayan and Rishi Kapoor hav esigned on for the remake in the roles played respectively by Farooq Shaikh, Deepti Naval, Rakesh Bedi, Ravi Baswani and Saeed Jaffrey. David Dhawan will direct the film.
7) Kissi Se Na Kehna
This superb romantic comedy is directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and stars Deepti Navel, Farooq Sheikh, and Utpal Dutt. It centers on a widower trying to find a wife for his son. Disappointed by the westernized women he meets, he vows to find a non-English-speaking, traditional bride for his son. However, his son, Ramesh, has already fallen for an English-speaking doctor. When Ramesh and his bride try to win over his father by pretending she's a simply village girl, hilarity results!
In Mukherjee's classic style, this 1972 film contains no violence or obscenities and focuses on spreading family values and morals through clean comedy. This movie is about a squabbling family with such a bad reputation for mistreating its servants that no one wants to work for them. When the stranger Raghu offers his services, he quickly whips the family into shape, settling arguments and reuniting the family. But is there more to Raghu than meets the eye?
Fun Fact: The movie is inspired by the Bengali Film Galpa Holeo Satyi (1966)
This classic movie, also directed by Mukherjee, is considered one of Bollywood's greatest movies and stars Rajesh Khanna in one of his best roles. Though more of a drama, this movie's comedic scenes are so good that it belongs on this list. This movie is about a dying cancer patient who helps his doctor reunite with a lost love.
Fun Fact: Anand was originally supposed to star famous Bollywood actors Kishore Kumar and Mehmood in the lead roles.
Another classic film directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, it stars Amol Palekar, Manju Singh, and Utpal Dutt. Palekar plays Ramprasad, who works for the very conservative Bhavani Shankar, who has very strict rules for how his employee should behave. When Shankar catches Ramprasad at a soccer game, Ramprasad tries to save his job by claiming his identical twin Laxman was at the game, not him. When Shankar's daughter falls in love with Laxman, comedy and chaos follow.
Facts: this movie was remade in Tamil under the title Thilumul and stars RajniKanth.
Directed by Gular and starring Sanjeev Kumar, this film is an adaptation of William Shakespeare's play The Comedy of Errors. This movie tells the story of two sets of identical twins separated at birth who eventually meet each other in adulthood. (The American movie Big Business, starring Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin has a similar plotline).
Fact: Deven Verma won Best Comedy Actor at the FilmFare awards for his role in Angoor.
In this charming, classic comedy directed by Jyoti Swaroop and starring Kishore Kumar, Sunil Dutt and others, a simple villager named Bhola falls in love with a neighboring woman. To woo her, he decides to serenade her. But since he's not a very good singer, he gets a friend of his, a famous singer, to do the singing while while Bhola just mouths the words. When Bhola gets the girl, will he be able to keep up the lie? With excellent music and fine comedic performances, this is one of Bollywood's finest comedies which you will thoroughly enjoy.
13) Chupke Chupke
Another classic comedy from the famous director, Hrishikesh Mukherjee. This clean, family comedy-drama stars Dharmedra and Amitabh Bachchan. In this movie, a husband's prank on his wife's family escalates, leading to a number of hilarious situations. It has a number of famous songs including: "Sare ga ma, ma sa re ga ma...."; "Ab ke sajan sawan me..."; and "Chupke chupke chal di purvaiya.."

Directed by David Dhawan with Bollywood mega-star Salman Khan in a double role, this 1997 comedy is a real crowd-pleaser. It tells the story of two identical twins (both played by Khan) whose personalities are night and day despite their identical looks. A series of comedic mishaps and mistaken identities take place when these twins court two good friends, who are confused by the sudden changes they see in their respective suitors.
This super movie is directed by K. Muralimohana Rao and stars Venkatesh Daggubati and Raveena Tandon. The story is about two deities, Yamraj and his assistant Chitragupt, who travel to earth to recover a book of prophecy called Bhavishya Vani. If they don't find it, they'll be kicked out of heaven and have to live on earth as mere mortals. This comedy of errors is highly entertaining. If you have seen the movie, you will never be able to forget "HimCream," Aakum Bakkum, or the movie's parodies of hit Hindi songs. Watch it to lighten your day!
16) Garam Masala
Starring Akshay Kumar and John Abraham, this comedy of errors is wonderfully entertaining. "Mac" and "Sam" are two womanizing photographers at an ad agency. When Sam cheats in a competition and gets promoted as Mac's boss, Mac tries to make Sam jealous by wooing three flight attendants - none of whom know about each other! When Sam moves into Mac's apartment, hilarious chaos follows as they try to outsmart the other in their pursuit of the three beauties.
17) GolMaal Fun Unlimited
Directed by Rohit Shetty and starring Ajay Devgah, Arshad Warsi, Tushar Kapoor and Sharman Joshi, this movie is the perfect mindless entertainment. It tells the story of four conmen who, thrown out of college, move in with a blind couple by posing as their grandson, Sameer. Whenever the blind couple interact with the foursome, hilarity follows as each one plays a part of Sameer. One of the funniest parts is Kapoor's "alien" language.
18) Dulhe Raja
One of the Govinda's best comedies. When the poor, yet ambitious, Raja opens a fast food restaurant across from an upscale, five-star hotel, the hotel's owner, Singhania, tries his best to run Raja out of business. Complicating matters even more, Singhanis' daughter pretends to fall in love with Raja in order to teach her father a lesson for refusing to approve her marriage to her boyfriend. When Raja falls in love with Singhania's daughter, hilarious misunderstandings follow. A real gem of a movie.
19) Dewaana Mastaana
Anil Kapoor and Govinda will have you laughing uncontrollably. In this 1997 film, a shrink has two suitors - one Raja, who claims to have business in the US and the other, a patient, Bunnu, who is terrified of everything. When they discover that they are rivals for their doctor's love, they seek to out-do each other in a series of increasingly ludicrous set-pieces. A very, very funny movie, the contrast between Govinda's innocence and Kapoor's cunning puts this movie over the top!
20) Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.
In this hilarious movie, an urban, Indian gangster, Munna, has conned his village parents into believing that he is a doctor. When they come to visit him, Munna goes to great lengths to maintain the lie, turning a rooming house into a makeshift hospital populated mainly by the people he beats up. Pleased, his parents try to arrange a marriage with a doctor's daughter - but what happens when his fiance's family learns the truth? Find out in this energetic crowd-pleaser.
21) Lage Raho Munna Bhai
The sequel to the first Munna Bhai movie, this film is a treat to watch with brilliant acting by Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi. In this one, Munna falls in love with a radio host, who also runs a home for the elderly under threat by an unscrupulous real estate tycoon. Thankfully, Munna Bhai has a powerful ally in his fight to save his girlfriend's home: the ghost of Mahatma Gandhi!
22) 3 Idiots
Directed by Raj Kumar Hirani and starring Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi, and Madhavan, this movie mixes comedy and drama to criticize India's educational system. It's about three college friends reminiscing 10 years later about all the crazy adventures and hijinx they got into while students at Delhi Imperial College - India's best engineering school. A great movie to see with old college friends!
23) Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani
Directed Raj Kumar Santhoshi first comedy since Andaz Apna Apna, this movie stars Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif. It has some great one liners and an excellent music selection. It tells the crazy misadventures of a young slacker who's willing to sacrifice his own dreams to ensure the happiness of others: even helping the love of his life elope with the love of her life!
24) MalaMaal Weekly
Directed by Priyadarshan and starring Paresh, Shakti Kapoor, Ritesh Deshmukh, and Asrani, this movie shows what happens when someone in a village wins the lottery. When the lottery winner dies of happiness, the person who sold him the ticket schemes to get the money for himself - as does everyone else in the village! A very funny film.
Directed by Priyadarshan, this film stars Aftab, Akshaye Khanna, Paresh Rawal, and Rima Sen. It's a comedy of mistaken identities and backgrounds that begins when two recent arrivals to the city must pretend to be married in order to find housing. That one little lie sets off a series of increasingly complicated lies and misunderstandings, all to comedic effect.
