Scary clowns have been featured in horror films for years. Even when they're not in horror movies, clowns can be really scary. Add some blood, pointy teeth, and a menacing grin and these happiness-promoting beings become terrifying creatures you could only come across in your worst nightmares.

This list represents some of the best and worst horror movies featuring scary, evil, clowns.

Probably the most famous of all scary clown horror movies, Stephen King's It is about a group of kids, the "Lucky Seven," that hunt down a child-killing evil clown named Pennywise. This creepy clown lives in the sewer while haunting the quaint little town of Derry, Maine. It was actually a miniseries/television movie that aired for two separate episodes.

It appears as something that the child victim fears before turning into the clown Pennywise. When the group of kids has grown up, 30 years later, they are forced to face Pennywise once again.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space is a horror comedy about a group of aliens that take the form of evil, killer clowns. They arrive to Earth in a spaceship that looks like a circus tent. The Killer Klowns use a collection of strange, novelty-like weapons to kill their victims in ways such as turning them into human-sized puffs of cotton candy. A silly movie but quite entertaining.

The movie Mr. Jingles, continues the story 7 years later.

Clownhouse is about three brothers, the youngest of which has a fear of clowns, who are on their way to the circus. A group of men (escaped mental patients) kill the circus' real clowns and assume their identities. The (fake) clowns then invade the home of the brothers and proceed to torment them.

The movie Camp Blood was made into a trilogy. The sequel, Camp Blood 2, is based on a documentary movie being filmed about the first murders that occurred in the same area, now nicknamed Camp Blood. During the filming of the documentary, the clown once again appears for a killing spree. Finally, in the last movie in the trilogy, Within the Woods, a group of reality show contestants are offered $1,000,000 if they can survive a night in Camp Blood.
