Hostel
2005, ***1/2, Horror
This is a horror and gore movie of the same genre as Rob Zombie's "House of a 1000 Corpses" and sequel "The Devil's Rejects." You may need to fasten your seatbelts for this one and after you watch it, you may think twice before you would ever consider touring Europe on the cheap and checking into a hostel.
"Hostel" chronicles the creepy and twisted adventure of three buddies, Paxton (Jay Hernandez), Josh (Derek Richardson), and Oli (Eythor Gudjonsson), who are sightseeing in Europe. They take a train ride to a Slovakian hostel, where they were told that they would meet hot, easy women. But shortly after they arrive, one of the guys vanishes. The other two start to worry and become very suspicious of their surroundings. The situation quickly goes from bad to worse, and the outcome of their journey isn't at all what they expected.
This is one of those movies where you want to get into the film and help the characters if you could. It's intense and gruesome and not for everyone, especially children. The film deserves recognition for gruesome effects. If you like blood and gore then I'm sure you have already seen it, otherwise go rent it now! After watching "Hostel," you may never want to visit Europe again.
