Forgive Him - Downey Jr About Gibson

"Unless you are without sin -- and if you are, you are in the wrong f**king industry -- you should forgive him and let him work again." Robert Downey Jr. Downey was referring to the career trauma self inflicted upon Mel Gibson for some unfavorable remarks.

Famous Quote Robert Downey Jr.

"The lesson is that you can still make mistakes and be forgiven."

Robert Downey Jr.

Iron Man series of movies is about revenge and saving the world and yet this single series of movies has crafted a new culture filled with an entire range of cross promotional products from action figures to t-shirts and much more. A movie about a super hero crafted in an iron suit, invented by a former weapons dealer/manufacturer named Tony Stark. Iron Man serves to save the world but interesting the backstory of the career traumas of Robert Downey Jr and Mel Gibson are an even larger drama and a bigger story of forgiveness and revival.

Both Downey and Gibson have seen blockbusters and have had to overcome sour times from self inflicted traumas.

Downey has been in rehab...drum roll please, nine times! Downey's life is all about self infliction, revival and rising from the ashes. The Iron Man series is a statement about fighting for the good on a global level and yet the movie series really parallels Downey's life of fighting his own internal demons.

Sherlock Holmes Hall H Panel, Comic-Con 2009

December 2009 Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes is an upcoming 2009 film adaptation of a fictional character developed in a novel by British author and physician Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930).

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote 4 novels and written over 56 short stories about this famous detective named Sherlock Holmes.

Guy Ritchie will direct the film, while Joel Silver, Lionel Wigram, Susan Downey and Dan Lin will produce the film.

About Robert Downey, Jr.was born April 4, 1965, is an acclaimed American actor, film producer. Downey made his screen debut at the age of five when he appeared in one of his father's films.

Robert Downey Sr. was born in 1937 and is known as the director and writer of the cult classic feature film Putney Swope (1969), a biting satire on the New York Madison Avenue advertising world, about the portrayal of race in Hollywood films, the white power structure, and nature of corruption in any struggle for power

About Susan Downey: wife of Robert Downey Jr., executive vice president of Silver Pictures, director of development for Dark Castle Entertainment, the horror film division, a native of Schaumburg, IL and was valedictorian in 1991.

Robert Downey Jr. will portray Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law will portray John Watson.

The film is scheduled to be released on December 25, 2009.

Sherlock Holmes Was Previously "Misrepresented"

Downey states in this video that they "reinvigorated" Sherlock Holmes and that he is really proud of the transformation.

The vastness of the material on hand helped recreated the vision the author had originally for this fictional character of this British detective. Downey's team combed through the manuals of Sir Arthur Conan with an eye to remain true to the original vision of this great author and physician.

The video exemplifies the quick wit and intelligence of this much esteemed actor.

One of the items that I appreciate about Downey is his attention to detail. This was very apparent in Chaplin and I am looking forward to the December 2009 release of Sherlock Holmes to once again unleash the genius of Robert Downey Jr.

Downey About Charlie Chaplin

1992 Chaplin

Downey's portrayal of Charlie Chaplin in Chaplin was pure genius. And he lost the nomination for Best Actor at the Academy Awards 65th ceremony in 1993 to Al Pacino who starred in Scent of a Women. Downey studied tennis, violin and retained a personal coach in order to imitate Chaplin's non-verbal communication. His body posture, his walk, his gait, his facial expressions were acted to a tee!

Iron Man Speaks

Iron Man Suit - The Design of the Suit

2008 Iron Man

Downey is said not to have been the most logical choice for leading man in Iron Man, but look at how he managed to bring that show to life. Iron Man was not just fun but it was also believable, we were engrossed the entire time.

Iron Man stars Robert Downey Jr. as a billionaire industrialist and playboy named Tony Stark, who is an inventor who creates a high-tech suit of armor that transforms him into a superhero, another version of Batman and Spiderman but with technology that is built to be believable.

It is reported that Iron Man grossed over $300 million in the United States and Canada. Downey has agreed to appear in the upcoming sequel Iron Man 2 which is scheduled to be released June 2010.

Iron Man was produced by Marvel Studios which has its origins from the 1970s with its activities centered around Marvel Comic book characters. In August 2009, Disney announced it was acquiring Marvel Studios parent company Marvel Entertainment. Marvel Studio's distributor is Paramount Pictures.

2008 First Blockbuster Film - Iron Man

Iron Man released in 2008 marked a dramatic change in Downey's career with a true blockbuster film and applause from movie goers and fellow actors alike.

Downey's Rehab - Relapse Years 1996-2001

Downey's career includes essentially a 5 year hiatus of not only substance abuse but numerous arrests and relapses and also actual prison time. One interview reported he felt he has fought addiction since age 8!

Funny Cute Dance on Ellen

Close Friends Help

Downey's friend, Mel Gibson, (Mel and Downey co-starred in Air America in 1990) reported helped Downey regain his financial stability by paying Downey's insurance bone for the 2003 film The Singing Detective. This financial assistance allowed Downey to gradually move back up to headline movies. Sadly, during his climb back up, 40% of his salary was withheld in order to ensure completion of the movies. But oh, are we ever glad he chose to leave his addictions behind. Downey has always been a great actor, but this the release of Iron Man, he will become legend. It is great to have a true movie star within our generation.

"The world is aware that billionaire inventor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) is the armored superhero Iron Man. Under pressure from the government, the press, and the public to share his technology with the military, Tony is unwilling to divulge the secrets behind the Iron Man armor because he fears the information will slip into the wrong hands. With Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), and James "Rhodey” Rhodes (Don Cheadle) at his side, Tony forges new alliances and confronts powerful new forces." synopsis from apple.com

Iron Man 3 Official Trailer #2 (2013) - Robert Downey Jr. Movie

The Judge - The Movie - Another Grand Chapter in His Career

Departing from super hero in the Iron Man series, Robert Downey Jr. takes on and conquers not just another type of movie but a movie with depth that delves into the the complicated family dynamics of a lawyer and his father, a small town judge. Set in the conservative Midwest, Robert Downey strays far from the glamour of California and super hero Iron Man and becomes a man and an attorney no less.

For you see, a great actor must showcase his versatility. From Sherlock to Iron Man to an attorney with a microscopic perspective on the father son relationship, Downey is securing his acting legacy perhaps further than his own father could have ever dreamed.

What is fascinating is Robert Downey Sr. often cast family members in his films (Wikipedia reports that Jr. appeared in eight of Sr.'s films.) So one has to wonder how much of a parallel The Judge may be in the Downey family and how appropriate this latest chapter may be in Downey Jr.'s career.

Look, even bad years are pretty good years I think.
~Robert Downey, Jr.

Sometimes you just gotta be drop-kicked out of the nest.
~Robert Downey, Jr.

Robert Downey Jr.'s Life

Robert Downey Jr.'s life showcases how a father's tough love and a friend's support can lay the foundation for greatness. For you see, we are all a product of our support system. We have the power within and sometimes we need the parent to let go so that we can stand on our own. And yes, as friends we must support each other in order to achieve greatness. Robert Downey Jr. has proven chapter after chapter that he is a great actor. Overcoming life's obstacles and traumas is what the journey is all about. As we celebrate Robert Downey Jr.'s career, let us remember our duty as parents, let us remember our duty as friends to not just forgive but to also support one another in order for greatness to be achieved.
