Kate Bush - First Lady of Rock

Kate Bush was the first rock star diva, a real musical heroine. I sing Kate Bush songs to myself sometimes; when it comes to recording, I wish I had half her studio skills, and Kate Bush was one of the few rock stars to make me sit up and say "Wow!" on first hearing - Kate Bush songs are so special.

Kate Bush burst on the scene for me with Wuthering Heights, its anarchic melody is incredibly difficult to sing and yet also managed to dance in an amazing expressive way but perhaps her best album was The Hounds of Love which was combined with The Ninth Wave - full on progressive rock from one of the best singsongwriers the UK has ever produced.

Unlike many singers, Kate Bush was never in it for the fame and fortune, though it was bound to come her way. She is first and foremost a phenomenal musician. Her interest is in composing and songwriting - and being the best producer she can be! I still love her music and look forward to hearing more from her. I hear a new album may be in the making and I am looking forward to it!

Kate is to release a new album, which involves recording the vocals and drums from The Sensual World and The Red Shoes and more subtle analogue mixing. This is great news for all of us Kate Bush fans! You can listen to the interview here!

This amazing album not only includes some of Kate's most beautiful songs but also the concept album The Ninth Wave which is progressive rock by any other name. The peak of her powers in my opinion.

An early video of Kate on the Kenny Everett show. After a silly interview, she performs The Man With The Child In His Eyes whilst doing some eurhythmics in a translucent body stocking, all very soft focus.

This is actually my favorite Kate Bush song. She has a beautiful voice, The Man With The Child In His Eyes is an amazing love song and I could listen to her sing it for hours!

These days female singer songwriters are not so rare, many are successful. Kate was probably the first and certainly one of the best. Do you think she was best of the bunch, or does the prize go to someone else?
