How Michelle Duggar Had 19 Kids

Updated on October 12, 2014

How Michelle Duggar Has Had 19 Children (and Counting).

I suffer from stage 4 endometriosis. This disease has made me infertile, as well as suffering from severe pains throughout the month, especially when I am on my period. After the birth of my miracle baby, Brianna, I had eight years ago. Even with multiple rounds of fertility treatment I have been unable to conceive again. When I heard about Michelle Duggar, who has 19 children, my interest peaked.

I thought how is it possible to get pregnant so many times? Michelle Duggar is the matriarch on TLC's hit show "19 Kids and Counting." She has birthed all her children and has never used fertility treatments to bear her previous children. The 47-year old is currently seeking fertility treatments to reach baby number 20.

Michelle Duggar has been pregnant 19 times. She has had two miscarriages, but she also has two sets up twins. So she has been pregnant 19 times, but only has been pregnant 17 times that had produced living offspring. She got pregnant between her first and second pregnancy, but she miscarried, but blamed the miscarriage on the fact that she was on birth control medicine and didn't know she was pregnant. This miscarriage caused the couple to stop using birth control and let God dictate how many children she should have. Michwlldoes see contrary, since she is seeking fertility treatment now, which means she is not letting her body and God dictate how many children she will have, but rather, her doctor and herself.

Michelle Duggar states in both of her books that she gets pregnant usually when the infant she last had is eight-months old, even though she was breast feeding. With most mothers, breastfeeding is a way to space children in ages.

What is interesting is the fact that she might have been able to have more children, if she did not follow the Old Testament rules which dictate on when to have sex. Michelle and Jim Bob wait 40 days to have sex following the birth of a boy, for girls, it's 80 days. She also does not have sex during her periods and up to seven days following her cycle. This means she does not have sex approximately 12 days a month if her cycles are 5 days long.

She can afford her children since she has no debt and owns their house outright. All her children are fed and clean and seem happy. They also have trust funds due to the hit show and a law which requires that all 10 of their children are paid 30% of what the parents gross into a special trust fund that the Duggar parents cannot touch. The children will be able to have access to most of the money when they are 18-years old, but they will have full access to their money when they turn 21-years old.

Michelle Duggar homeschools all her children, so she spends a lot more time with her kids than most moms, me included. They all play harp, piano, and violin. So, if she wants to have more children, more power to her,

working
