In Memory of Billy Mays
In the past several months, I had become a big fan of Billy Mays after watching his commercials all the time as long as I can remember. The products he pitched and sold millions of were all great items, cleaners, or other helpful things, because Billy would not sell anything that he believed was substandard or worthless. He sold great products at prices I later came to find out he had a part in deciding on. A couple months ago I believe, Billy Mays and Anthony Sullivan started a television show called Pitchmen, on Discovery channel. I already watch basically every Discovery channel show, so I was excited knowing it would be quality TV. To watch Billy Mays work his magic behind the scenes was a blast watch and see exactly how his commercials were put together. Billy and Sully would sell two products that inventors brought in every week of the show, and come up with prices, slogans, and finally a real TV commercial that would air, selling hundreds of thousands of the product being pitched by Billy Mays himself.
Sadly and suddenly, Billy Mays has left us. He has passed away this morning, June 28, 2009, in his home in Tampa, Florida to be in heaven. Everyone I have talked to is shocked, because this week in the United States we have lost Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson, and now Billy Mays. We will always remember each one of you.
I don't think anyone can say that they have never seen a Billy Mays ad and be telling the truth. He was all over TV selling two or three fantastic products over the course of your hour-long TV show. His voice unique and instantly recognizable, his thick, black beard and his light blue shirt were his trademarks, and his products worked like champs and will last forever. His most famous words, "Hi Billy Mays here!", will not be forgotten. Ever.
And now, Billy, this is for you, rest in peace in the presence of God Almighty. When I get to heaven too, I will buy everything you are selling up there (I know you can never stop), and everyone will laugh and be happy.
Rest In Peace Billy Mays (July 20, 1958 - June 28, 2009).
Thank you,
Parker
