Inspiration and Creativity

Updated on October 1, 2012

How to Think Outside the Box

If you like to write, paint, design clothes, or even websites, you know that being creative is an important part of your hobby or work. The people that are most successful or considered most talented are ones that produce original, unique pieces of art or literature. Although, nothing is completely original. Every person brings their experiences and influences to the table when creating something new. When writer's block takes place or artists draw a blank, sometimes it takes inspiration from various sources to kick-start their creativity again. These are some of the ways that I have stimulated my heart, soul, and brain in order to express reflections of myself in the forms of poetry, informative articles, and paintings.

Inspiration Station

When life gets hectic and distractions abound, you need a quiet place to think in order to create thoughts outside the bounds of your normal sphere. Find somewhere whether it's in your house, your backyard, a museum, restaurant, or even a national park where you can get away from the routines of life and where you can most easily let your thoughts fly without inhibition.

I get most of my ideas when I'm in the shower. I relax and let my thoughts flow freely.

Music

Music has a way of conveying feeling, summoning memories, and conjuring up beautiful images and ideas. The rhythm of a certain song can help you if you want a certain beat or cadence for a poem. A certain theme from a song can help you to decide what your painting should be about or help you to display a feeling in art. There are so many artists, bands, and styles of music, but using the internet can help you to narrow down your search for music that can later become the muse for your own masterpieces.

Art

Art is full of emotion and creativity that it's impossible not to react to it with your own creations. It can be found anywhere you look, including museums, galleries, restaurants, and the internet. Gaze intently at pieces of art and you will find the ideas you've been looking for.

Sum It Up

1. Find a quiet place that helps you to think freely.

2. Listen to music that catapults you to past memories and envokes emotion in order to tap into your creative subconscious.

3. Find art that inspires you to express yourself.

As a right-brained female myself, I think that playing music helps to unlock creative inspiration because the music and writing areas are probably both located on the right brain. This makes sense to me anyway. Thanks for commenting!

When I dob one creative activity, like playing the piano, it helps me write better. I think that it's a right-brain thing.

      Thoughts?

Yes, creativity can be merely a way of thinking differently that would help one in all arenas of his or her life.

Interesting thoughts on creativity and inspiration. I guess it goes with the territory for creativity to be inherently adaptable, too, into other areas, whether directly related or not.

You are so right, crockers! Creativity is something we learn as children and we can continue to use when we are adults. Haha; I don't think I'll ever fully grow up either. Thanks for sharing! :)

Creativity is unforced and comes from the place you are in when you play. The answer is to never grow up completely!

      (That's my excuse anyway!) ;)

Thanks, wayseeker! I've noticed that my brain comes up with interesting ideas whenever I'm doing mundane tasks as well, such as washing the dishes. I might have to try pulling some weeds and see what I can come up with lol. Yes, it definitely is; it never ceases to amaze me. Thanks for checking out my hub!

      Ebower,

These are very interesting ways of promoting creativity. I've always loved cross-media inspiration. Lately, I've found great inspiration while letting my mind wander during mundane tasks. In the shower is always a big one for this, though I've had a whole slew of inspirations the other day while pulling weeds.

The mind is an interesting place!

Thanks for sharing; that sounds like a great way to be inspired. I'll have to share it sometime. Thanks for reading, commenting, and voting me up!

One way that I get inspiration is just by writing stream of thought consciousness stuff... let the words just flow out of me, incoherently sometimes, and eventually a specific word combination or phrase will give me a spark of creativity. You've got some great ideas here, earning you both a vote-up and a useful.
