Is Katy Perry's Part of Me Movie Worth Seeing?
Katy Perry has grown to be one of the biggest pop icons since 2008 since she released her first single as a pop artist, "I Kissed a Girl." Her new movie, "Part of Me" is a documentary about Katy Perry from her days as an early teen growing up in a highly Catholic family to her stardom today.
Personally, I am a huge Katy Perry fan and have been since her release of "Hot N Cold" in late 2008. I was extremely disappointed when I planned to see her in concert last year, but was never able to purchase my front row seats of $200 because of school. When I heard about her new "Concert Movie" that was coming out this summer, I knew I would immediately go see it on opening day.
However, to tell the truth I was slightly disappointed with the movie. I went into it expecting the movie to be more of a concert with some documentaries scattered in between then the other way around. I also had to pay an extra $5 at my expensive movie theatre for all of the 3 minutes of 3D throughout the actual film (I think there were actually more minutes of 3D in the previews than the movie itself).
Those two points being said, were the only negatives I could say about the movie. I found "Part of Me" to be very informative and also gave me a lot of insight into the career and life of my favorite female pop artist. One of the most interesting parts about the movie was how the songs from her latest album, "Teenage Dream" connected with a certain period of her life and it was genius how the editors organized her concert footage to go along with each part of the documentary. What intrigued me the most was the majority of songs from "Teenage Dream" (which was released in 2010) foreshadowed events that occurred during her "California Dreams Tour" in 2011. The concert footage, although not long, was great and made it feel like you were really at her concert. If this movie did anything for me, it gave me a great appreciation of how hard she worked to reach her fame and solidified how desperately I want to see her live!
Overall Rating- 3.5 stars
Like I said before, I'm a huge Perry fan and this movie only increased my fandom. I thought the documentary itself was as good as you could possibly make one. I just went into the movie expecting more music and performances. I would still recommend "Part of Me" to Perry fans because it really gives a new appreciation of her as an artist and a person as well as a glimpse into what a Katy Perry concert is like. If theres one thing I recommend its don't pay the $5 for the glasses if you can!
