James Bond 007 Skyfall Official Trailers News and Stills

Updated on October 11, 2013

In the autumn of 2012, Daniel Craig returned as James Bond 007 in SKYFALL. This is the 23rd installment of the James Bond series on the big screen. We will see Bond's loyalty to M pushed to the limit and tested as M's past comes back to haunt her.

The RELEASE DATE in the United States was November 9, 2012.

In addition to Daniel Craig as 007, SKYFALL features once again the great and talented Judi Dench as M and co-star and an incredible collection of actors directed by Sam Mendes. Joining Craig and Dench will be Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, and Ben Wishaw filling in as Q.

SKYFALL has been produced by Michael G. WIlson and Barbara Broccoli. The final screenplay was written by John Logan, Neal Purvis, and Robert Wade

Thomas Newman who's worked on such films as American Beauty, Cinderella Man, The Green Mile and Road To Perdition did the music which will be an interesting turn to hear how he approaches a Bond film.

Skyfall is the first James Bond film to be shown on the IMAX screen. Also, the film's release was part of the celebration coinciding with the franchise's 50th anniversary, which began with Dr. No in 1962.

SKYFALL - Official Trailer

Here is the film’s official logline:

"In SKYFALL, Bond’s loyalty to M (Dench) is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost."

So what to expect from SKYFALL? Here's what I go from Wikipedia:

An operation in Istanbul does not ends well. In fact it turns out to be a disaster. James Bond turns up missing and the assumption is he's dead. We've lost 007! Then the cover and identities of all the active inside MI6 agents gets leaked onto the internet. This is where M becomes the subject of a government review over how she handled the situation. When the British Secret Service itself gets attacked, James Bond makes a sudden reappearance which gives M the pretext she needs to track down and find Raoul Silva. Silva is a dangerous villain claiming a personal connection to both of them (Bond and M). However, as 007 follows the trail from London to the South China Sea, Bond will soon finds his loyalty to M challenged over the secrets from her past.

What's interesting is that it appears the plot lines from Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace will go on the back burner for this film. Good news is that Craig appears to have signed on for two more Bond films and so perhaps we'll see the demise of Quantum in a later film.

Why You'll Want To See This Film

OK, so here's why I'm excited about SKYFALL. From the title alone, you can tell that this will not be a typical Bond film. While we've had a few bond movies with one word as a title, SKYFALL stands out in a whole different light. The title alone is interesting.

Next we add Sam Mendes to the mix. I was shocked to hear that he was directing. The guy that did American Beauty and Road To Perdition, 2 of my favorite films, is going to tackle a Bond film? I'm IN! Sam Mendes behind the helm also tells us that this will be a Bond film to remember as his style will be a whole new take on the Bond film and character.

While Craig has nailed it as a Bond for the 21st century, I couldn't help but get very excited to find out that the man who played that sick bastard from No Country For Old Men is going to play a Bond Villain. That one piece alone will be worth the price of admission.

And yes, as I mentioned, Daniel Craig has nailed Bond for the modern era. He has brought a certain human element to James Bond that we have not seen from any other portrayal. I respect Craig's work as an actor and enjoy the fact that he can go from Bond to any other roll and not get "stuck" as Bond or in "Bond type" rolls. Also one of the reasons I think he signed on for more. His talent as an actor and his ability to create memorable characters will allow him the flexibility to take on 007 and not get stuck in the roll.

Also looking forward to getting Q back in the mix. I'll be curious to see if there will be any of the classic slapstick banter between Bond and Q and how that will play out. Perhaps it will be all business this time for this pair.

Guess we'll just have to hit theaters on November 9th to find out. Personally, I can't wait to see SKYFALL! How about you?
