James Taylor and Carole King duets concert Melbourne Australia

Updated on August 23, 2010

Troubadour Reunion World Concert Tour begins in Melbourne Australia.

James Taylor and Carole King bought their music to Melbourne on Saturday night.

Australian fans like me feel very honoured that they chose to begin the world tour in Melbourne during the F1 grand Prix round in our city. It has the place hoppin!

Their voices are so well matched for a duet. Great depth in the harmony added variance to the performance.

They also brought the team they had 40 years ago to perform a 2 hour show, and boy! Did we get our money's worth!

All the old crew from the Troubadour performance were here. Russ Kunkel on drums, Kootch Kortchmar on guitar.

This is the first stop of their new world tour, and seeing the energy that the whole group seems to have they are going to have a lot of fun doing it!

It has been sold out for ages, but my son managed to get two tickets at face value off EBay so being a big fan himself and knowing that I am as well he lovingly took me.

The Venue in Melbourne

We drove to within a 10 minute walk of the Rod Laver Arena where it was held. The arena hold 15,000 and was full.

It was a beautiful early autumn evening, so we parked free in the road that winds around the Botanic Gardens and took a 10 minute walk across the garden path lit by antique lights down to the river, and crossed the busy Alexander Avenue to the bridge, crossed the bridge on the pedestrian path and we were there.

Although a bit expensive the food at the venue was first class, the beer cold, and the waiting area very congenial with enough room for everyone to get to their gate entrance to the tennis court area where concerts are held.

The Melbourne fans varied in age but was mostly older people who were as excited as school kids.

We have been to concerts here before. Tickets down front will cost upwards of $500 at this tennis venue that has a mobile roof so that it can be closed when it rains.

The roof was closed, for the concert of course and the acoustics were brilliant!

The performance.

From the moment they came on stage until we left, we were entertained consummately with all the best of tapestry, James Taylor's classics and an audience that was kept spellbound by that magnificent voice and guitar of Taylor.

Carole King's voice is as good as it ever was, her harmony so tone perfect it belies her years.

We sounded great too! The audience participation was constant and wonderful to be a part of.

We clapped, sang choruses and generally made them feel at home!

Carole King must have bought her piano with her I reckon, as it sounded more wonderful than ever.

The backing they had was of course world class and the old backup group were together!

Carole King and James Taylor somehow forgot how to get old. much like their enthusiastic fans!

A wonderful concert, full of beautiful music, humour and love. What a night out! Wow!
