Juice Wrld's Legends Never Die: A Review
Rapper Juice Wrld is what some might call a mixture as a musician. He had tracks that he especially rapped on but he also had other tracks that presented more of a pop side. I was not a huge fan of Juice Wrld mostly because I really did not know much about his discography before his death. In all truthfulness, the one Juice Wrld song that I knew was "Lucid Dreams" which is still in my opinion his best work overall. However, in his latest album titled Legends Never Die, Juice takes the listener on a very similar course that includes tracks about love, life, and doing some sort of drug. However, in some areas this album seemed more personal than in others.
He opens us into his world with a rather nice admission statement in his opening track “Anxiety.” He illuminates us on his mission in life and how he simply wants to change the world like others before him and how others will after him. After all, for being a mere 21 years old Juice Wrld achieved fame well beyond what many can comprehend. His second track on the album titled “Conversations” is only the beginning of his journey into the psychological as he talks about “speaking with the devil”, coping with fame, and how drugs helped but also hurt him. Weirdly, it seems that “Conversations” was the track that he exposed what happened to him on. It was one of my favorite tracks on this album by simply stopping after the first two tracks would not be enough to write in regards to this fine piece of work.
Further down the tracklist is a very similar track that Juice Wrld expresses himself again about the anxiety of fame. At number five on the track list that includes 21 tracks due to Juice being 21 when he passed away, “Righteous” takes the cake as the most personal track on the entire album. For someone who enjoyed fame and the glory of the music he was presenting it seemed that Juice Wrld also had a heart and soul which is what he expresses There are problems within the world that he lived in and his personal life took the brunt which partially caused his insane drug use. However, he never steered away from being the person that he was. He stayed the course and stayed “Righteous” as the song puts it.
The last in depth track that needs time to be examined is his love track featuring well known pop-vocalist Halsey. “Life’s a Mess” is a combination of both Juice Wrld and Halsey’s vocal talents in which each tells the story of a very troubling relationship. Halsey we know has had relationship troubles in her past which makes this song all the more personal. This track was dropped four days before the album’s arrival accompanied by a music video and shows a unique loving and caring side of Juice Wrld, although in his side of the vocals we are unsure of who he is referring to when he says “Have you ever fallen head over heels for somebody.” This track will probably be the defining track from the album due to it's feature, but also its message that is not about what many of Jucie Wrld’s songs are about.
In addition to these tracks, Legends Never Die has two features from Marshmello, the well known EDM artist, as well as Trippie Redd, and of course as mentioned earlier Halsey. The album itself is 55 minutes long with 21 total tracks each of which is definitely worth a second listen. This album did not disappoint at all and in fact turned out better than some might have expected. Nevertheless, the sad fact remains that Juice Wrld will not be releasing any new material ever unless he has tracks stored somewhere that remain unreleased. If you haven’t listened to this album it is worth a listen even if this type of rap is not your typical listen.
