Just Like Heaven
2005, ***, Romantic Comedy-Drama
Reese Witherspoon, (Vanity Fair, Legally Blonde, Cruel Intentions) and Mark Ruffalo (13 Going on 30, We Don't Live Here Anymore) star in Just Like Heaven, an "okay" flick. It's fun, but I don't think most people would watch it twice.
I know this is a Witherspoon movie, but Jon Heder, aka Napoleon Dynamite, is a supporting character (Daryll), who adds a touch of zany fun that I think really helps this movie. He isn't the same dorky snow-boot wearing outcast, but he is definitely an interesting character you will enjoy. I think we may see more of this new actor that tends to have the ability to make you smile.
Witherspoon does a good job as a friendly spirit, Elizabeth Masterson, but is an irritating character and won't seem to leave David's (Ruffalo) apartment. Well, it was her apartment before her out of body experience. David thinks he's seeing things, due to his beer buzz; then realizes she isn't just a figment of his imagination.
It was her destiny to become a hardworking physician, but is it her destiny to leave earth so soon? It's a definite "out of body experience" for sure. Just as her promotion as a leading physician at the hospital is announced something terrible happens to her. She finds herself in that space between life and death. Walking through walls in this liberating but odd experience brings out what in may mean to live life to the fullest. Find out what David does to help Elizabeth get through this dream like state, in this one of a kind new age fairy tale about a woman who worked so much, it took her a near death experience to realize what she had been missing.
