10 Keanu Reeves Movies That Are Pure Gold
1. The Bill & Ted Movies
Although Keanu Reeves did have a good amount of small roles before Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure which was released in 1989, it was this movie that really got him noticed by the public, it was followed by a sequel titled Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey and a third installment is set to be released in 2020 which is titled Bill & Ted Face the Music. for anyone that hasn't seen these movies the basic premise is time travel to pass a history exam and things steamroll out of control from there.
2. Point Break
Released in 1991, in between the first two Bill & Ted movies Point Break is about bank robbing surfers and Reeves got to star alongside fellow superstar Patrick Swayze at what was probably the peak of Swayze's career, the movie has a cult following and there was even a remake made in 2015 although it met with mostly negative reviews.
3. Bram Stoker's Dracula
The adaptation of the classic horror novel was released in 1992 , Reeves played protagonist Jonathan Harker opposite the great Gary Oldman as Dracula, it was met with great praise and reviews and still holds up well to this day. also starring Winona Ryder, Anthony Hopkins and was directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
4. Speed
Speed is an action thriller that was released in 1994 about terrorist type situations involving, you guessed it, having to go fast, it was one of Sandra Bullock's first big roles and the two have great chemistry throughout this movie, the sequel that was released a couple years later starred Bullock but Reeves wasn't in it.
5. Johnny Mnemonic
A pretty strange movie with a pretty strange concept behind it Johnny Mnemonic was released in 1995 and was basically about a memory smuggler and the many things that go wrong will all that jazz, perhaps not the greatest science fiction movie in the world but certainly still worth a watch even if it's just to watch Reeves against Dolph Lundgren in his prime.
6. The Devil's Advocate
Based on the novel of the same name The Devil's Advocate is about a lawyer played by Reeves that works for the devil (Al Pacino), it also stars Charlize Theron pretty early on in her career, it is one of Keanu Reeves best performances in my opinion
7. The Matrix Movies
The Matrix not only changed Keanu Reeves career but changed the way special effects in movies were done in general. Based around the concept that humans live in a computer simulation and not the real world it spawned two sequels The Matrix Reloaded & The Matrix Revolutions both just as successful as the first movie.
8. Constantine
Probably my favorite Keanu Reeves movie Constantine was released in 2005 and is a supernatural thriller based on the DC comics about a demon hunter named John Constantine, it stars other heavy hitters such as Shia Labeouf and Tilda Swinton and is perhaps the best comic book adaptation to date on the big screen.
9. The Day The Earth Stood Still
Although not his greatest work I am still a fan of this remake of the 1951 science fiction classic and it has been registered for preservation by the national film registry as historically significant. perhaps the worst of his good movies but it is still well worth a watch.
10. The John Wick Movies
Perhaps the role he is best known for these days the John Wick movies put Keanu Reeves in the role of a world famous assassin who is seeking revenge for, among other things, the death of his dog, seeing what a nice guy Keanu is in real life it is amazing how well he takes on this role and makes it his own, John Wick is quintessentially the new Chuck Norris, there have been a total of three movies thus far in the series.
