Korean Celebrities Who Sing Filipino Songs
Koreans and Their Support to OPM Songs
It is impressive to hear Korean celebrities singing English songs but what's more impressive and very heartwarming is when they sing your language. It doesn't take any research to know that Filipinos have such great love for Koreans and have been supportive of Kdramas and Kpop music ever since I can remember. But what's really nice is when you find out that even Koreans are supportive of the Filipino music or OPM (Original Pinoy Music) as we always refer to it. A lot of Kpop groups and Kdrama celebrities have been to the Philippines and we have heard them expressing their appreciation to Filipino fans by saying "Mahal ko kayo" and any other pinoy phrases but discovering their love for pinoy songs just proves that the love isn't one-sided and they are reciprocating this by admitting that they also love and recognize pinoy talents. While pinoy fans have heard BAMBAM singing a few lines of "Ngiti" at a Fan Meeting in Manila, or Sungha Jung playing "Ang Huling El Bimbo" on his guitar and other Kpop groups singing lines of "Pusong Bato" or even "Bahay Kubo" which was rapped by Infinite, I was mostly fascinated with Korean celebrities singing the full versions of pinoy songs. EXO, Park Shin Hye and BTOB's Hyunsik and Eunkwang made a big effort to truly make pinoys love them.
EXO Sings "Hawak Kamay" by Yeng Constantino
On January 19, 2013, Filipino fans of Kpop groups went crazy at the SM Mall of Asia Open Grounds when the hottest and most famous Kpop artists "wowed" them of such great talent. It was a Dream Kpop Fantasy Concert that featured Girls Generation, EXO, Infinite, U-kiss, Tasty, and Tahiti. EXO made the biggest impression on Filipino fans as they sang our very own Yeng Constantino's "Hawak Kamay." They didn't just sing a line or two, they sang the entire song, highlighting D.O. and Chen's high notes. Their performance impressed the audience and this was even greatly appreciated by Yeng Constantino who responded to the much talked about peformance of EXO. At an interview with PEP mediabox, Yeng quoted, "That's one of my greatest dreams for OPM to really crossover the Asia." Considering that EXO practiced that song for a month to be able to pull it off, the effort is an amazing proof that Koreans do recognize the talent of Filipinos. This is one of the reasons why no matter how cheesy or corny a pinoy can be referred to for fangirling or for being too obsessed with Korean celebrities, Pinoy still continue their undying love and support for Kpop.

Park Shin Hye Sings "Kailan" by M.Y.M.P
In celebration of Park Shin Hye's 10th anniversary as a Korean actress, she had a Kiss of Angel Asia Tour and her Fan Meeting in the Philippines was held on March 16, 2013. She surprised her pinoy fans by singing M.Y.M.P's "Kailan" and she sang this as if she were a native. It was flawless and too sweet that the fans were overwhelmed with joy as she perfectly showcased her singing ability and appreciation to her fans through this wonderful song.
I think mostly the fans are swayed by Korean actors because most of the ever supportive Korean fans are girls but Park Shin Shye is the first Korean actress who held an Asia Tour and she's also the first Korean actress who held a Fan Meeting here in the Philippines. She's a good singer, dancer and actress and I have only seen her on one Kdrama which is "The Heirs" but now that I have come across this fact that she sang the full version of "Kailan," I might actually check out her movies and recent Kdrama's. It brings joy to be supportive of someone who makes effort in giving love to Pinoys so she's at the top of my list as my favorite Korean actress from now on.
