Lady Gaga - My thoughts

Updated on August 22, 2013

Me? An Old Lady - Like Lady Gaga?

Me, a 48 year old woman, likes Lady Gaga? “How did this happen? I ask myself.

Well Madonna, she was ok, but not someone I followed to any extent. There were a couple of songs that I liked “Papa don’t preach” being one of my favorites. The things she did I just didn’t care for, I’m sure she worked hard and all, good for her I didn’t begrudge her those fans, I just wasn’t one of them.

Cyndi Lauper was more to my liking, she was just plain fun. Her sense of style was totally off the hook. Or in my day, ‘wild’. Before my husband became my husband, he was hoping to have a close encounter with Cyndi, of the carnal kind. That should of made me dislike her, but it didn’t.

Is she or isn't she?

My teenage girls and I have been having some interesting conversations regarding this Lady Gaga person.  The first BIG discussion was her possibly being a hermaphrodite, yeah I have heard of them, yep seen pictures too.  Well if she is so what.  No skin off my nose what body parts she was born with.  If she is she can’t help it, I personally wouldn’t proclaim it to the world if I was, but that is me.

Then I got to thinking, what if it was a publicity stunt?  I mean, this way she can get both sides of the fence going.  The guys love her cause she has girl parts, the girls love her cause she has guy parts.  What a cool way to get your name out!  It took someone really brave to let that one out.  Even if it’s not true, just the implications.  Usually the promoters will have only good things let out, this was WAY bad.  But it worked for, good for her.

Who cares if I can't sing the words...

The music of Lady Gaga? Well it’s kind of hard to describe, it’s fun and the music is upbeat, even if the words are a little strange.

I don’t always know what the words to the songs are, and sometimes I don’t even care. Takes me back to the days of my mom singing in the car to Johnny Nash’s - “I can see clearly now” her words were “I can see clearly now the rain is gone, I can see all the icicles in your hair” What??? Yep, I remember it as if it were today. She didn’t care, she just wanted to sing. It became a big joke for her to sing improper words after that.

Lady Gaga in Chicago

Surrounded by 'her peeps'
Surrounded by 'her peeps'
She can make that garbage bag look good!
She can make that garbage bag look good!

She's got a sense of style for sure

My friend was in Chicago two weeks ago and ran into Jon BonJovi got a speedy picture of him as he was waving to her daughter. She called all excited and breathless - She saw Jon BonJovi!!! Nervous as all get out she was, literally shaking. Just a couple blocks over Lady Gaga was shooting some pictures, she didn’t bother to call me on this one. Darn it! The outfit that she was wearing just happened to be something that I said years ago my oldest daughter could make look good. Garbage bags and twist ties. Yep, that was what she happened to have on.

Her sense of style is something that I could never in my wildest dreams emulate, probably wouldn’t want to, but they are Great anyway. Her music is fun, lively and makes you want to try and sing along to. But I think what makes her special in my eyes is the way she treats people. Always a kind word to strangers, my friend even got a picture with her and her daughters. Afterwards her 9 year old said “Mom, who was that???” Her fans are affectionately called “Little monsters”. She even encouraged the you tube video made by a fan, probably with the thought “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”. She seems to be the type of person who says “Live and let live”, without any form of judgment.

I think her 'meat' outfit was a little strange, but heck.  IT'S LADY GAGA who cares??  She makes anything look good!

I may not run out and purchase all of her CD’s, but I certainly won’t change the station when one of her songs come on.  I may not be part of her fan club, but dog-gone it I know who Lady Gaga is, and I think she is pretty ‘cool’.  I hope she stays around for a long time to come, I’d like to be able to do my old lady dance to Lady Gaga’s music when I’m in my 80’s.

I'm sure there is a lot more that I don't know about Lady Gaga, but what I do know, I like her!

Everyone goes GAGA for Gaga!!

Seems like everyone wants to be like Lady Gaga!!
