Life Lessons You Can Learn from Alanis Morissette
Why I Have Respect for Alanis Morissette's Music
I have been a fan of Alanis Morissette for many years now. She is so unique and puts so much passion into her music. She was never afraid to just be herself. These days, it seems like more and more people are singing songs about "money" or "girls. Alanis actually put thought and heart into her songs, and sang about topics everyone can relate to. Just because she was around in the 90's does not mean that we still can't enjoy her music. There are many lessons that can be learned in her songs. I have chosen my favorite 4 Alanis Morissette songs that you can learn valuable lessons from.
You learn from the mistakes you make in life.
"You live you learn, you love you learn
You cry you learn, you lose you learn
You bleed you learn, you scream you learn"- Alanis Morissette
The song, "You Learn" by Alanis Morissette, is probably my favorite Alanis song. I love the idea being talked about. I listen to this song everytime I go through something hard in life and need some helpful advice. The lyrics are all about realizing that everything you go through in life makes you wiser and stronger. She suggests that getting your heart broken, crying, greiving, and praying are all apart of learning. It is a very postive and upbeat song.
Life is better when you have a positive attitude.
"What it all comes down to
Is that everything's gonna be fine fine fine
I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is giving a high five"-Alanis Morissette
This is another great song to listen to when you need advice to achieve happiness, or you are just down in the dumps. In the song Alanis Morissette sings about how she is broke yet still happy, sad but laughing, and lost but hopeful. Yet, she is reasurred that everything truly is just going to be fine. Life can be hard, but a positive attitude can make a world of difference.
Life is unexpected.
"It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought... it figures"- Alanis Morissette
Sometimes people get so upset when everything doesn't turn out exactly how they were expecting them to. That is not how life works. The song "Ironic" is probaby Alanis' most known song, and this is for good reason. She shows how life is truly unpredictable. However, if life were predictable, wouldn't that be awful boring? I have read a few reviews online where people were complaing about how her examples in this song aren't techincally examples of irony. Despite the fact that I agree with some of this, I still love this song. I don't think we need to be that technical, and we should just look for the song's incredible meaning and sound.
You deserve the love from someone that loves you for who you are.
"You see everything, you see every part
You see all my light and you love my dark
You dig everything of which I'm ashamed
There's not anything to which you can't relate. And you're still here" - Alanis Morissette
Let's face it, noone will ever be perfect. It is important to find someone that can accept everything abou you even your faults. This is one of my favorite love songs ever. In the song, Alanis admits to being less than perfect. For example, she claims to be passive aggressive and moody. However, she loves the fact that her light can still be seen, and that she is truly seen but still loved.
