Early Years

Liam Hemsworth was born in Melbourne, Australia on January 13, 1990. Hemsworth has two older brothers, one of which is actor Chris Hemsworth of the Thor movies. Liam's mother is an English teacher and his father works in the social services field as a counselor.

At a young age Liam's family moved to Philip's Island in Australia. Philip's Island is a small island off of the coast of Australia where the Hemsworth brothers were able to grow up in a slower paced community and spend their time surfing. Philip's Island is also known internationally for the pod of penguins that visit the island nightly.

It wasn't until the year of 2009 that Hemsworth decided to move to America to pursue his acting career. Upon arriving in America, Hemsworth bunked with his older brother Chris at Chris's manager's house.

Trying to Break Through

Prior to moving to American Hemsworth had some success on television shows in Australia. He appeared on "Home and Away", "McLeod's Daughter", and "Neighbours." After appearing on several Australian soap operas, Hemsworth began starring on the children's show "The Elephant Princess."

While Liam was trying to break into the acting world he worked as a laborer laying floors for six months.

Finally, in 2009 Hemsworth was cast to star opposite of Sylvester Stallone in the movie "The Expendables." However, Hemsworth's character ended up being edited out of the movie and he never appeared in the movie. A few hours after Liam discovered that his character had been edited out of the movie "The Expendables" he was called to audition for the lead role in the movie "Thor." However, Liam would lose the role to his older brother Chris.

Soon after losing the starring role in the blockbuster movie "Thor" to his older brother, Liam was cast opposite of Miley Cyrus in the movie adaptation of Nicholas Spark's best selling novel "The Last Song." After Hemsworth appeared in the movie "The Last Song" as Miley Cyrus's love interest he then appeared in her music video for the movie. The two soon began dating after meeting on the set.
