Life Happens
2010, ***1/2, R
Starring: Krysten Ritter, Kate Bosworth, Geoff Stults, Justin Kirk, Rachel Bilson
Kim (Krysten Ritter) is a new mom who got pregnant because there was no more “contraception” left when her and her best-bud Deena (Kate Bosworth, “Blue Crush”) were in a bind one evening. Her life is an annoying mess: horrible boss, trying to find a guy to date, and living with Deena (the aspiring writer), and ditsy virgin, Laura (Rachel Bilson, TV’s “The OC,” and “Jumper”) in the hipster-ish neighborhood of Silver Lake, middle-class California neighborhood.
Her world seems to be falling into place slowly after the father of her son (a surfer/skater dude type who is just starting to gain recognition in the sporting community) wants to leave town, and basically wants nothing to do with his sons growing up; sharing the responsibly plan goes straight out the window.
Kim meets Nicholas (Geoff Stults, TVs "7th Heaven") and his pals. She starts to fall hard for Nick, only she lies about having a baby; he thinks it’s her friend’s child. They begin to see each other, and then he finds out in a horrid way that the child is in fact hers but, he's hiding something from her, as well.
The movie is centered on Kim wanting her friends to help take on some of the responsibility to help her out when she needs a babysitter. This quirky comedy is totally hilarious because it's original, has likeable characters and shows a different take on the single parent routine. It depicts life happening and giving everyone a fresh start!
The film has some great one-liners that you’ll never forget!
