Great "Love" Songs
L...is for the way you look at me...
Yes, today is Valentine's Day, and love is very much in the air. In more ways than one. I was playing some music on my computer, and love seemed to be everywhere. Love was pouring out of my computer, and filling my eyes and ears with it's sound. I am talking about the word, itself, not the emotion.
The word "love" is in over 500 songs on my computer. And, I know, this is by no means a complete collection of all the music ever made, so it made me think. How many songs out there contain the word "love"? Just in English? It boggles the mind.
That one, single, one-syllable word is so powerful. It holds the mind and spirit in a way nothing else can. I could go about listing every song with the word "love" in it, but who the heck would want to read that?? Instead, I am going to highlight a few of my favorites. This is by no means a complete list of even my favorite "Love" songs, but it's a start.
Can't Help Falling in Love
Elvis: Can't Help Falling In Love With You
First of all, it's Elvis...come on...who doesn't like Elvis? This song is beautiful, romantic, and timeless. I can't listen to this song without getting all sentimental, and singing along. This is one of those amazingly romantic songs that causes people to fall deeper in love. Of all the Elvis songs, this is, by far, my favorite.
I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song
Jim Croce: I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song
This is another classic. I love classic rock, oldies, and all that. It's what I was raised on. Thank goodness for my parents!! I actually have knowledge of music made before 1985. LOL! This song is just one of those songs that moves through you as you listen to it. It has a nice, soft melody, and I just love it. It's the sort of song that is perfect for a lazy, weekend day with the one you love.
Say You Love Me
Fleetwood Mac: Say You Love Me
I am a huge fan of Fleetwood Mac, and this song is in my top ten favorite Fleetwood Mac songs. I could do a whole hub on them, and a few other of my favorite artists. Again, more classic rock! Go figure! I love listening to this song in the car, it's a great driving music, especially on a nice, summer day.
I Love Rock N Roll
Joan Jett: I Love Rock N Roll
I was a young child in the '80's, and I love a lot of the music from that time in my life. Joan Jett's I Love Rock N Roll is no exception! I even like the Weird Al parody, "I Love Rocky Road", about the love of the ice cream flavor. I grew up with this music, and it has stuck with me. And who says love songs have to be about people? Everyone loves Rock N Roll!!
Another Sad Love Song
Toni Braxton: Another Sad Love Song
I remember the first time I heard this song. I heard it and thought about times I had felt like that. I still hear the song and think about all the times in my life where I have felt so sad and heartbroken. This song is just one of those sad songs you have to listen to. Life comes with the good and the bad. Songs about heartbreak and pain are always very powerful.
Let's Make Love
Tim McGraw & Faith Hill: Let's Make Love
What a song of passion!! You can really feel the passion and love between the two of them as they sing this. This is an amazingly passionate and romantic song. It has such power. I am a huge fan of country music, and this is one of my favorite songs.
All I Wanna Do is Make Love to You
Heart: All I Wanna Do is Make Love to You
What is there to say? Heart was an amazing group!! I could go on and on, listing all the Heart songs I like, or the impact the group has had, but I don't need to. This song reminds me of when I was younger, not in a "I relate to this song" way, just in the way that I grew up with this music. I grew up listening to rock, metal, and a lot of other types of music. This song was one of those songs that stuck with me. Such pain, such loneliness, and such longing. I was young when this song came out, but it still had a great effect on me.
And I Love Her
The Beatles
My favorite band. Enough said. I LOVE The Beatles!! And, as it turns out, they love to sing about love. They recorded ten songs with the word "love" in the title. Not to mention all their other songs about love. I had a hard time narrowing down the song choices to just one or two, but here are two of my favorite "love" songs by The Beatles. "And I Love Her" (above), from the movie, A Hard Day's Night, and "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" (below), from the movie, Help! Watching these videos shows the genius and talent of The Beatles. They are music videos decades before the birth of MTV.
You've Got to Hide Your Love Away
Love You Like a Love Song
Selena Gomez: Love You Like a Love Song
Selena Gomez is a favorite of my oldest. So, no surprise that I hear this song a lot. I actually like it. It's catchy, sweet, and fun. The video pays a little homage to Max Hedrome, which is a little strange, but I admit it, I like this song, and a few others she has done. I don't know what to say about that. Call me a cheesy mom who listens to her kid's music. I don't care.
