Madonna Concerts on DVD
Big news for Madonna fans? There was a rumor that 3 of her past concert tours are coming out on DVD and Blu-ray; The Virgin Tour, Blond Ambition World Tour, and The Girlie Show World Tour.
If and when I hear they are available for purchase I'll add them here!
The Virgin Tour, 1985
When I think of Madonna, this is how I picture her. This is when we all first became fans wanting to sing like her, talk like her, dress like her, be her. This is iconic Madonna. Old school, retro, quintessential Madonna. If you were born after the 80s and are a Madonna fan, you must watch this show. If you were a fan back in the 80s you'll want to relive those memories.
The Virgin Tour was her 1st concert tour. She was promoting her first two studio albums; Madonna and Like a Virgin. Tickets to this tour sold out as soon as they were announced.
She had the Beastie Boys open the show. When it was Madonna's turn to take the stage she started the show off with the quote "I went to
New York. I had a dream. I wanted to be a big star. I didn't know anybody. I wanted to dance. I wanted to sing ...
I worked really hard. And my dream came true." And then she appeared.
The songs included...
Set One
- Dress You Up
- Holiday
- Into the Groove
- Everybody
- Angel
Set Two
- Gambler
- Borderline
- Lucky Star
- Crazy for You
- Over and Over
- Burning Up
Encore
- Like a Virgin
-
Material Girl
"The Virgin Tour was Madonna's first, yet it put her in the same league as Prince and Bruce Springsteen." -Heidi Sherman, Spin Magazine
Blond Ambition World Tour, 1990
I remember watching the Blond Ambition Tour on HBO. It was filmed at her concert in Nice, France. I video taped it and watched that VHS so many times it started to wear out. I was in love with this show, not to mention one of the male dancers. ;) I *think* I still have that tape. I must look for it and watch it soon.
Blond Ambition was Madonna's 3rd concert tour. It was for the Like a Prayer album, and her soundtrack for the movie Dick Tracey, I'm Breathless.
There were five different segments to the show each having a style of their own. The songs included...
Part one: Metropolis
- Express Yourself
- Open Your Heart
- Causing a Commotion
- Where's the Party
Part two: Religious
- Like A Virgin
- Like A Prayer
- Live To Tell
- Oh Father
- Papa Don’t Preach
Part Three: Dick Tracy
- Sooner or Later
- Hanky Panky
- Now I’m Following You
Part Four: Art Deco
- Material Girl
- Cherish
- Into the Groove
- Vogue
Part Five: The Encore
- Holiday
- Keep It Together
Rolling Stone called this tour the "Greatest Concert of the 1990s. I believe it.
The Girlie Show World Tour, 1993
The Girlie Show was Madonna's fourth concert tour. This time it was in support of her album Erotica. This happened to be only 3 years after having said that she would never go on tour again. Never say never.
The songs included...
- Erotica
- Fever
- Vogue
- Rain
- Express Yourself
- Deeper and Deeper
- Why’s It So Hard
- In This Life
- Like A Virgin
- Bye Bye Baby
- I’m Going Bananas
- La Isla Bonita
- Holiday
Encore
- Justify My love
- Everybody
