Minnie Mouse - Over 80 Years Old and Still Going Strong.

Updated on August 31, 2013

Minnie Mouse - Still Mickey's Girl After 80 Wonderful Years

Minerva "Minnie" Mouse was created by Walt Disney. She is Mickey Mouse's girl. Mickey and Minnie debuted together in Plane Crazy, which was first released on May 15, 1928. Minnie is invited to join Mickey in the first flight of his aircraft. She accepts the invitation but not his request for a kiss in mid-flight. Mickey eventually forces Minnie into a kiss but this only results in her parachuting out of the plane. This first film depicted Minnie as somewhat resistant to the demanding affection of her potential boyfriend and capable of escaping his grasp.

They appear together again in Steamboat Willie, the third short of the series to be produced but released second on November 18, 1928. The commercial success of Steamboat Willie helped introduce Mickey and Minnie into the audience.

Her next appearance was arguably more significant. Mickey's Follies which showed on June 26, 1929, featured the first performance of the song "Minnie's Yoo Hoo." "The guy they call little Mickey Mouse" for the first time addresses an audience to explain that he has "Got a sweetie" who is "Neither fat nor skinny" and proudly proclaims that "She's my little Minnie Mouse". Mickey then proceeds in explaining his reaction to Minnie's call.

The song firmly establishes Mickey and Minnie as a couple and expresses the importance Minnie holds for her male partner. Soon it would become the theme song to all of their series.

Since then Minnie has come a long way and has made herself a name in her own right. She is pretty, cute, always doing fun things with Mickey because she's Mickey's girl. She is notably known for sayings such as "Ohh, Mickey" and "Yoo Hoo".

Three reasons to love Minnie Mouse

1) She's Mickey's Sweetie.

2) She puts her foot down and doesn't let anyone push her around.

3) She wears such cute outfits. Gotta love the bow!

How did the Ears get so popular? - M-O-U-S-E do you remember watching the Mickey Mouse Club?

The original Mickey Mouse Club is a favorite for those old enough to remember it. The first Mouseketeers wore the Mickey Ears on every show. The first Mickey Mouse Club came out in 1955 and was created by Walt Disney. The last series was completed in 1996. Throughout the years many teenagers have come and gone on the show.

The 1955 Version:

The original show which aired in 1955 through 1959 and in re-runs from 1962-965, had the following group of teenagers:

* Annette Funicello

* Tommy Cole

* Darlene Gillespie

* Cheryl Holdridge (joined in second year)

* Bobby Burgess

* Doreen Tracey

* Cubby O'Brien

* Karen Pendleton

* Lonnie Burr

* Sharon Baird

The 1970s Version:

The Mickey Mouse Club was brought back to life in a new program called the All New Mickey Mouse Club, with a whole new generation of young performers.

The cast had a more diverse ethnic background than the 1950s version. Several 1970s cast members went on to become TV stars and other notable icons.

The show's most notable alumna was:

*Lisa Whelchel, who later starred in the NBC television

sitcom The Facts of Life before becoming a well-known

Christian author.

*Julie Piekarski who also appeared with Lisa Whelchel on

the first season of The Facts of Life.

*Kelly Parsons who went on to become a beauty queen

and runner-up to Miss USA.

*Shawnte Northcutte who appeared once on Facts of

Life.

*Billy 'Pop' Attmore who appeared in a few movies

before and after the series, a fifth-season episode of

The Brady Bunch ("Kelly's Kids"), and as a streetwise

hood in the short-lived Eischied crime drama.

*Nita Dee who appeared at the tail end of an episode of

Fantasy Island.

The 1990s Version:

The shows name was revised and called The All New Mickey Mouse Club or MMC for short.

Five members of the show (Damon Pampolina, Tiffini Hale, Chase Hampton, Albert Fields and Deedee Magno) broke off and formed the musical group The Party, and released four full length albums: The Party; In The Meantime, In Between Time; Free; and The Party's Over...Thanks For Coming. They had a radio hit with the Dokken cover of "In My Dreams".

The sixth and seventh seasons of the show would be the starting point for several American pop superstars and actors.

*Britney Spears

*Christina Aguilera,

*Justin Timberlake,

*JC Chasez,

* Keri Russell

* Ryan Gosling - an Academy Award nominated

actor.

The Mouseketeers were all on the show and all had future stardom.

Bit of Trivia: Jessica Simpson and Countess Vaughn were finalists but did not make it onto the show.

The only Mouseketeers who remained on the show until its cancellation in 1994 were Lindsey Alley, Jennifer McGill and Josh Ackerman with Tiffini Hale and Chase Hampton back for the final season.

The main theme throughout the entire time was they all wore the famous Mouseke-ears at one point or another. The Mickey and Minnie "ears" are known the world over as the symbols of the Disney characters, especially Mickey.

Are Mickey and Minnie Married?

Walt Disney said in a 1933 interview, "In private life, Mickey is married to Minnie. A lot of people have written to him asking this question, because sometimes he appears to be married to her in his films and other times still courting her. What it really amounts to is that Minnie is, for screen purposes, his leading lady. If the story calls for a romantic courtship, then Minnie is the girl; but when the story requires a married couple, then they appear as man and wife. In the studio we have decided that they are married, really."

Also, in House of Mouse, Mickey mentions his and Minnie's anniversary, which may imply that he and Minnie are married.

Mickey and Minnie are Disney Icons

Together they make such a cute couple. They seem to fit right together. I went to a wedding once that was themed as Mickey and Minnie because the bride loved Minnie. She even wore a set of "Ears" as she walked up to the alter.

This is a great movie for the whole family. The Disney family always comes out with great films, but this one is wonderful for the holidays. Each short story in this film has a moral value that teaches young kids about sharing, caring, giving and loving.
