Music Review - The Temper Trap
The Temper Trap - Fader
I was just minding my own business, relaxing in the bath with my PSP tuned into Internet radio when a song came flowing out of the PC speakers. It first caught my attention because I’ve been in a situation where talk hasn’t been getting me anywhere. “I'm in transit.... floating stranded on this boat and I pledge my self allegiance to a better night sleep at home”. Holy shit that is a sweet lyric I’m thinking. It’s blasting out with a beat and sound and I don’t even know what some of the instruments they are using are or maybe its just one of them “woo wooing” through some megaphone with a synthesizer attached. I sit up out of my bath, so I can drip on over the floor and see who in the hell this is. I’ve never heard of them, they are called “The Temper Trap” and off of one song they might be one of my new favorite bands. These guys are incredible. The song that hooked me is “Fader” and this song is hitting me where I live, possibly where you live to. “woo oo oo... talk don't change a thing oh, it's fading fader - woo oo oo... words don't sink it swims - oh, it's fading fader.” If a person can fall in love with a band, I just did.
It’s not like I’m alone. The Temper Trap have received major kudos from the Aria Music Awards group who targeted them in 2009 for “Album of the Year: Conditions”, “Single of the Year: Sweet Disposition”, “Breakthrough Album of the Year” as well as “Best Rock Album” from their debut album, “Conditions”. The band is from Melbourne, Australia and consists of Dougie Mandagi – lead vocals, guitar, Jonathon Aherne – bass, Lorenzo Sillitto – lead guitar, keyboards and Toby Dundas – drums. Have I mentioned that they are friggin’ awesome?
The pure sweet sounds of the vocals from Dougie Mandagi is undeniable on their hit song "Sweet Dispositon" which has cracked the top 40 in all the world markets, reaching #6 in the UK. Their melodic beats keep swirling you around in a music induced bliss matched perfectly to Dougies lead vocals, as well as by soft backing vocals. Have I mentioned that this group is friggin' awesome? I'm not just blowing steam here. If you don't agree, you're just wrong - plain and simple. You have no idea what you are talking about. Take it up with Drum Media (Sydney) Writers' Poll who awarded "Sweet Disposition" and "Conditions" for best single and album of 2009. Was there any doubt?
I'm not even sure why you are sitting here reading my review? Have you played either embedded video yet? Checked out their homepage? Get to it! How far away are you from getting their debut album and adding this up and coming band into your collection? I'd go now. A group this good is not going to remain a secret for long. Quit being a follower and get this music playing in your home, apartment, dorm room, car, mp3 player... where ever it is you get your musical fix. You can be one of those annoying friends of yours who are always finding the new bands your group listens to. Move along now! This is a revolutionary band with a revolutionary sound, combined with jaw dropping lyrics sung by incredible vocalists. I'm completely blown away. As you should be.
