Must-See Movie Releases in Fall 2018
Movies releases this fall
The movies coming out this fall have me seriously considering investing in a MoviePass. For this reason, I have decided to compile all the must-see movies coming out during fall 2018 along with a brief description, their release dates, and trailer. Enjoy.
Bohemian Rhapsody
Release date: November 2
I am most excited about this movie. Based on Freddie Mercury's life as the front man for the band Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody filled us with much anticipation after being announced 8 years ago. With Rami Malek (Mr. Robot) as Freddie Mercury, this film has a lot to live up to. It is comforting to know the remaining band members of Queen expressed their approval of Rami Malek's performance.
White Boy Rick
Release date: September 14
Based on a true story, White Boy Rick is about Richard Wersche Jr. (Richie Merritt), a 14-year old drug trafficker from Detroit, MI who became the youngest FBI informant in the early 80s. Matthew McConaguey plays Wersche's blue-collar father. What makes his story even more amusing is that after he was no longer considered an asset to the FBI, he was sentenced to life in prison for possession of cocaine.
A Star is Born
Release date: October 5
With Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga as the film's protagonists, the cast of this movie will surely not disappoint. Cooper plays a musician who helps a struggling artist (Gaga) to find her way in the industry despite his own issues. Following multiple adaptations of the original film released in 1937, Barbara Streisand's visit to the Star is Born set only amplifies the anticipation of the film.
Venom
Release date: October 5
The only reason I need to see this movie. Tom Hardy. Based on the villainous character portrayed in the Marvel comic book Spiderman, Venom is about a journalist's acquisition of superpowers when he becomes the host to an alien. Michelle Williams and Woody Harrelson also have roles in the film.
Fantastic Beasts 2
Release date: November 16
To be honest, I wasn't that crazy about the first film, but after watching the trailer for the sequel I am extremely excited to see Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. In my opinion, what was most disappointing about the first film was how detached it was from the Harry Potter series. I think most movie goers were hoping there would be more connections to Harry Potter than the final scene when we finally see some overlap between characters. With Jude Law as a young Dumbledore, Johnny Depp as the villainous Grindelwald, and references to Hogwarts in the first trailer, my expectations for this movie have increased tremendously.
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms
Release date: November 2
Although you may not be excited based solely on the film's title, the suspense of its trailer, with Morgan Freeman narrating, and an almost nostalgic effect of Tchaikovsky's "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" has dramatically increased my interest in this film. With Kiera Knightley as the Sugar Plum Fairy and Mackenzie Foy (Twilight) as Clara, this is a must-see movie during the holidays.
Mary Poppins Returns
Release date: December 19
Based on Mary Poppins' return to London, Mary Poppins Returns is a sequel to the original film released 54 years ago. Jane and Michael Banks have experienced a personal tragedy and Mary Poppins returns to restore joy to the family. In all honesty I am a little hesitant about this film because I could see it not doing well. What makes it worse is that Julie Andrews will not be returning. With that being said, I am excited to see Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins, Lin-Manuel Miranda as her friend, Jack, and Dick van Dyke return to the screen.
What do you think?
