My 5 Favorite Chick Flicks
Why am I doing this?
Let me start by saying that I am a man. I am a manly man. I drink beer, watch football, chop wood, and eat those 1lbs Hungry Man dinners. Yep, I do all those things and will openly admit, proudly that I do. Now, I have a secret that I feel is in the beans I am about to spill, I like some chick flicks. AHHHHHH!! I have just said it, I have just openly admitted do like those estrogen filled cryfest factories. Yes, sometimes I do like to curl up on the couch with my Ben & Jerry's and watch The Devil Wears Prada then paint my nails. Ok, I don't paint my nails that would be a tad on the odd side. Now, I know you may think I am kinda weird, but to tell you the truth a good number of guys out there do have a few chick flicks in their vault that really tug at their heart strings. In fact you may catch them watching The Notebook when they are supposed to be watching the game. You know they are doing this when you walk into the den to investigate the sniffling noises only to find a bunch of kleenex on the floor and they claim they are crying because the ref made a bad call. Yep, men do like some chick flicks. I feel compelled to share my top 5 with you. here goes...
No.1 The Holiday
This is my favorite of all time, chick flick. It has a great cast Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, and Jack Black, which in this movie he has a very unusual role for what he usually does, but does it very well. In this one Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet both are down on their luck in love and decide to switch lives for a week. I think this flick is very well put together, but what pulls me in and keeps me there is the score, Hans Zimmer is the master when it comes to this, and he delivers once again in this movie. This movie is great to watch around the holidays, because that is when the story like takes place and also like a lot of chick flicks it has that theme of starting anew, and don't we all feel that way around the new year?? Check it out.
No. 2 A View From The Top
This is an awesome chick flick! This one has Gwyneth Paltrow, Mike Myers, Mark Ruffalo, and a guest appearance by rob Lowe. In this movie Gwyneth Paltrow is a small town girl who decides she wants something more out of life, and decides to go after her dreams. I think that is why I love this movie, simply because I can be lazy on my couch in my rubber ducky boxers gorging myself on cookie dough and still feel like I am chasing down my dreams. I am just doing it via Gwyneth.
No. 3 Anywhere But Here
This movie is a lot more serious than the last two which are wonderful comedies, but even though it is filled with drama it remains in my top 5. Anywhere But Here stars Susan Sarandon and Natalie Portman. This duo plays in a mother-daughter storyline in which a daydreamer, flighty mother decides to pack up her more realistic, down to earth daughter and move from Wisconsin to the sunny country of L.A. In this journey both of them learn a lot not only about themselves and each other, but a lot about life and love as well. I have no clue why I love this picture, maybe because Susan Sarandon reminds me of my mom, don't the experts say all guys have some kind of repressed feelings for their moms? I sure hope I don't, because I think that would make me Natalie! No, offense to her but 90% of the time she looks like she is going to burst into tears. Oh well, regardless, watch this flick, just don't tell your mom that she reminds you of Susan Sarandons crazy character.
strange...
So in the middle of this list I decided that I need a testosterone break. So in the ebay capsule below I just typed in a search for "explosions" and this is what I got... I think this is a conspiracy! I type in explosions expecting Chuck Norris and Van Damme and I get yoga ball and photo stuffs. I am going investigate this very thoroughly!
No. 4 Romy & Micheles High School Reunion
Why oh why do I like this movie? Let's see... Oh, yeah because I was a giant geek in high school and wanted to be just like Sandy Frank! I would watch this movie (claiming my sister wanted to see it) a lot! It also helped that these girls were reeeaaal perdy and I was an adolescent male. As the title describes Romy (Miro Sorvino) and Michele (Lisa Kudrow) who get word of their ten year high school reunion. Upon revisiting the past they remember they weren't that popular. As they dig deeper in their past their fears grow and they decide to lie about their current lives to seem a lot more interesting and successful to their old classmates. What happens is a bundle of knee slapping funnyness.
No. 5 The Devil Wears Prada
Last but certainly not least The Devil Wears Prada starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway as well as Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. The story is about Andy (Hathaway) who gets a job at Runway Magazine and must survive her evil boss Miranda (Streep) so she can write her ticket to her dream job. She is helped along way by blunt and Tucci as she navigates the realm of fashion and the balance of professional and private life, as well as who you are and what you stand for. I love this movie simply because it is a great story, and the cast is simply grand. I also think it ties into the whole getting you dreams thing as well for me.
Other Notes...
So there it is, I have laid out my favorite girly films. Now, I can paint my toenails while we listen to cindy lauper and you do your hair and chew bubble gum while we gab about ewwy boys. Ok, maybe not, but that is the way my brain feels right now. I just wrote all about 5 chick flicks now my mind can't stop! I also love The Notebook, Bridesmaids, Dirty Dancing, AHHH!! Turn this off! ... ... ... Ok, I think I am good. But, If you came in the room right now and saw my tears I will never admit that I was thinking of Patrick Swayze pulling Baby out of the corner, and I will swear it was a bad call by the refs!
