My Best Friends Girl
2008, R, ***1/2
Starring: Dane Cook, Kate Hudson, Jason Biggs
By Meredith A. Iager
Dane Cook ("Employee of the Month," "Simon Sez") stars in this anti-Hitch type movie about his extracurricular service for his friends. Cook allows his natural "raw" personality to provide some income by taking out other guys women on the worst date of their lives, so they flock back to their mediocre man. Although as you would expect, all of this goes awry when (Biggs) -Cook's best friend asked him to take out his wannabe girlfriend (Hudson). And soon enough, he realizes this girl isn't turned off by his crazy antics.
If you're not a Cook fan, then you might still like the film...although it does have its crude moments, it's still a fun movie that most people would enjoy. I must say, in more recent years, Cook is at his best in "Good Luck Chuck." Maybe it's the storyline that was more interesting or more slapstick humor, I'm not sure...but it was even more entertaining than "My Best Friends Girl."
Biggs character in the film doesn't stray too far behind the quarky roles that he has played in the past, like "American Pie," or Woody Allen's "Anything Else," or "Loser" opposite Mena Suvari. Hudson is her same ol, same ol' fun loving girlfriend type-always the smarter blonde.
There are some seriously funny scenes: including--Biggs getting his eyesbrows shaved off, Hudson singing in the car, Cook flashing Hudson's mom, and then on a softer note--Cook and Hudson going on a date to remember--a prom.
This film is worth your time at least once!
