Best Supernatural Anime
We love a good supernatural story every now and then. The gripping new world, the mystifying scenes and the characters that are trying to make sense of what is going on around them and in them, the supernatural is always quite enticing and entertaining.
We are curious about anything we do not know about and thousands of anime creators have spent hundreds of man hours to create some enthralling and amazing stories for us to follow. We also always like to think about what it would be like to be in the scenarios the characters are and what we would do with the powers trusted upon us.
Even though there are many supernatural anime to choose from, I have devised yet another list of the best ones I have seen so far. They are not organized in any specific order, I just they are all great and should be watched and enjoyed by others. So here it is the top ten best supernatural anime.
Yu Yu Hakusho:
Ghost Detective: Based on one of the most awesome students I have ever seen, the series revolves around Yusuke Urameshi, a bad boy that in reality has a tender heart, risking his own life to save that of a child's from a car accident. Great action, plot and character development and serious fights, both physically and internally, I have even re-watched this anime quite a couple of times. The cast is very lovable and relatable and their adventure has great wisdom to take and learn from.
Death Note:
I don't think I have seen masterminds at work so fervently and efficiently as they did in this anime. We follow the story of Light, a high school student that has found a rather special notebook. Being granted the power to kill anyone he wants just by writing their names in it, Light begins his journey to ridding the world of all evil, thus becoming one himself. Tense, frightening and keeping viewers at the edge of their seat, the series has great characters, awe-striking plot twists and will always leave you questioning how they could have thought of such an interesting story.
Mushishi:
I feel a slight tingle and shiver climb through my spine every time I hear this name. Quiet, serene and all too real, the series helps us understand a new form of life called the Mushi and those who investigate and learn about them, the Mushi-shi. The story follows Ginko, our main character and investigator as he searches and helps people with problems that they might have with this other realm of life and existence.
Code Geass:
Man I wish Light from Death Note and Lelouch could play chess together for once. This anime absolutely shocked and destroyed all that I had understood would happen and did the exact opposite. Our main character, Lelouch VI Britannia, is only a student trying to have a peaceful life with his classmates and sister when in a weird accident he meets C, a mysterious and powerful girl that bestows him with a Geass. This eye power allows him to control anyone he meets eyes with; leading him to attempt to destroy this corrupted Britannia Empire he lives in. Fighting former friends, leading a double life and discovering secret after secret, our hero goes by the name of Zero, the masked leader of the rebellion that would change everything.
Darker than Black:
Gosh was this anime puzzling and rich in back-story. Following one of the coolest and strangest protagonists in the anime world, Hei, a psychic agent, the story revolves around people with powers called contracts. They may use these supernatural powers at some cost of their own, usually a physical punishment. Hei and his partners are working with an agency focused on figuring out what brought these powers to the world, known as the Hell's Gate, and how they can get better at fighting the people with them.
Claymore:
Oh would I love to be able to tell the main character in this anime how cool she is. Based on a world filled with youma, terrible and powerful creatures that wreak havoc and destruction, the story follows Clare. She is a youma half-breed that has been trained to be a warrior that can fight the youma. Quick swordplay and dangerous missions, this girl has done it all. Clare constantly has to fight to keep her human side but wins against all odds while using her powers. Strong and filled with emotion, this is an anime that I would suggest to anyone wanting some impacting action.
Tokyo Ghoul:
I don't think I will ever look at life and human beings the same way after watching this anime. Kaneki Ken, a college student, gets a date with a beautiful girl he meets in a coffee shop. Soon, he wishes he had not been so lucky. The girl had turned out to be a ghoul, a creature that fed on humans and wanted him to be her dinner. An accident occurs though, and a doctor merges what is left of the ghoul with Kaneki, turning him into a half-human, half-ghoul. Unable to live a normal life again, he now has to understand how to live in this different world where everything tastes terrible and only people will suffice for his diet.
Blue Exorcist:
Imagine leading a life trying to do the right thing, only to figure out your real father is Satan himself. Managing to be dark, witty and funny, this anime had a great cast of characters that wished to fight the forces of evil. Rin, the son of all evil, also decides to go against his dad and begins to study and practice until he can reach that goal alongside his brother and his friends.
Get Backers:
Sometimes I cannot stop wishing we actually had a group like the dynamic duo in this story. Following the two delinquents Ginji Amano and Ban Midou in their quest to help others retrieve what they have lost, the story takes many turns and twists but is still easy to follow. Using powers of illusion and electricity against any foes they might encounter, their success rate is high and their work ethics are great and hilarious! I highly suggest watching this anime if you are in for some funny and some dark moments.
World Trigger:
Alien technology, big fights, incredible friends and enemies and much more. The antagonists in this anime, the Neighbors, come from a gate that has mysteriously opened in our world. Now it is up to Osamu Mikumo, a low rank shooter and his friends to fight these giant monsters to keep them from destroying their home.
The supernatural will always be an amazing new view to something that we did not know could exist and only wish to understand. These anime portray that perfectly, making us wish with all our hearts that we could also get to live in a world like that.
