My Favorite 80’s Music

Updated on August 15, 2011

There’s just something about the 80’s music.

I mean, it’s already 2010 now, 20 years after the 1980’s. Still a lot of songs from that decade remain my favorites until today. Whenever I hear any of them (which is really seldom now), I sometimes stop what I’m doing and just listen. I love their refreshing, upbeat sound, the clear lyrics, and their beat.

I’m a music girl. I like the music, not the singer, although there are some singers I do prefer. And I don’t really watch much MTVs, I prefer to listen to the music. But after going through my list, I was pleasantly surprised that I could see all of them on youtube.com.

So here is my list of my favorite 80’s music with some of their lyrics and their videos. I hope you enjoy these songs and their videos as much as I enjoyed compiling them. Afterwards, please feel free to leave me a note telling me what 80's music you love and why you love them. Will really appreciate hearing from you.

Kyrie Eleison by Mr. Mister

Kyrie Eleison
Down the road that I must travel
Kyrie Eleison
Through the darkness of the night
Kyrie Eleison
Where I'm going will you follow
Kyrie Eleison
On a highway in the night

Sunglasses at Night by Corey Hart

I wear my sunglasses at night
so I can
so I can
Watch you weave then breath your story lines.
And I wear my sunglasses at night
so I can
so I can
Keep track of the visions in my eyes.

I also like Corey Hart's Never Surrender.

We Belong by Pat Benatar

We belong to the light, we belong to the thunder

We belong to the sound of the words we’ve both fallen under

Whatever we deny or embrace for worse or for better

We belong, we belong, we belong together

Hungry Eyes by Eric Carmen

(theme song from the movie Dirty Dancing)

With these hungry eyes

One look at you and I can’t disguise

I’ve got hungry eyes

I feel the magic between you and I

Never by Heart

We can't go on
Just running away
If we wait any longer
We will surely never get away
Anything you want...we can make it happen
Stand up and turn around
Never let them shoot us down

If You Leave by OMD

I touched you once, I touched you twice

I won't let go at any price

I need you now like I needed you then

You always said we'd meet again

Take On Me by A-Ha

Take on me (take on me)

Take me on (take on me)

I'll be gone

In a day or two

Heaven is a Place on Earth by Belinda Carlisle

Ooh, baby, do you know what that's worth ?

Ooh heaven is a place on earth,

They say in heaven love comes first

We'll make heaven a place on earth

Ooh heaven is a place on earth

Waiting for the Star to Fall by Boy Meets Girl

Waiting for a star to fall

Carry a part into my arms

That’s where you belong

In my arms baby, yeah

Wake Me Up Before You Go Go

Wake me up before you go-go,
Don't leave me hanging on like a yo-yo.
Wake me up before you go-go,
I don't wanna miss it when you hit that high.
Wake me up before you go-go,
'Cause I'm not planning on goin’ solo.
Wake me up before you go-go,
Take me dancing tonight…
I wanna hit that high...
Yeah, yeah.

The music from that decade is some of the best. You had, if from SoCal, the KROQ - new wave music with Berlin, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, KLOS - rock from Rainbow, Rush, Van Halen, and top 40 radio had MJ's thriller, Madonna, Prince, etc...+ Hip Hop emerged . The music we have today is depressing in comparison. surprised you missed one of my favorite videos and songs - Boys of Summer by Don Henley
