My Favorite Psytrance Artists and Groups

Updated on August 21, 2011

For as long as I can remember, I've been a HUGE fan of Psytrance (psychedelic trance).

My love for the music has taken me to many festivals and parties revolving around the Psytrance sound. There's something about the epic synths, heavy basslines and far out samples that pulls me toward the psychedelic trance sound.

I would like to share a few of my favorite Psytrance artists and groups which you too may enjoy and become a fan of the music.

Hallucinogen (Simon Posford) has always been my favorite Psytrance artist. With his release of The Lone Deranger and LSD, he made a huge impression on my musical tastes especially in the psychedelic trance world.

Hallucinogen has some of the wildest tracks; he's a living legend in the world of Psytrance music. Each time I listen to his music with headphones, I get chills because I'm always finding new little sounds that I didn't seem to notice the first dozen times around.

If you're just getting started with Psytrance than I definitely recommend checking out Hallucinogen first.

Astral Projection

To be honest, Astral Projection is more of a classic GOA group but nonetheless, they've influenced just about everyone in the Psytrance world.

Astral Projection's songs aren't all that complex but they are stompers. The sounds are basic but they are true to the psychedelic sound; I generally put their album 'Another World' on a few times each month for a good listen. The album has its age but it's still an amazing set of tracks that even current Psytrance artists can't bring the level of quality and awesomeness.

As far as getting started with Psytrance and GOA, I recommend Astral Projection because this is a lot of where the 'roots' of Psytrance has come from; think of it as a history lesson in music.

Electrypnose is a very experimental psychedelic trance act. Many of the artists music will dip into the Dark Psytrance genre but also take on various sub-genre's that are more dub than Psytrance sound you've come to expect which is one of the reasons why I love the act.

Overall, Electrypnose is really far out there and not for everyone's taste in terms of this kind of music. My first reaction to their music was mixed but the more I dug into the work the more I enjoyed it especially songs like Life is a Sinus.

In all, if you're feeling particularly fond of a darker sound than I recommend checking out Electrypnose.

More Psytrance!

I will never stop listening to Psytrance because it truly is my favorite music. I doubt we'll ever get to a point that we'll hear Psytrance on the radio which is perfectly fine by me because I love the underground nature of the music.

For festival goers, I highly recommend checking out a Psytrance party because they will blow your mind in every way. For everyone else, keep an open mind when listening to Psytrance; the tracks are long but they take you through an audible journey like none other.

I have a few other favorite Psytrance artists but these definitely top of my list.

This is really odd music for sure. I've listened to quite a bit of your tracks you listed but they kind of give me anxiety a little. I suppose I am very sensitive to music.

Some of these tracks remind me a little of film music. Especially in films with large fantasy-like action sequences.
