Napoleon Dynamite (FOX) - Series Premiere: Synopsis and Review

On January 15th, the animated version of ‘Napoleon Dynamite’ premiered on FOX. The show is a follow up on the 2004 movie of the same name. It revolves around the eccentric Napoleon Dynamite, a sixteen years old high school student living with his thirty-two year old brother Kip and his grandmother. Voicing the characters are the original actors from the movie.

The first episode shows Napoleon getting some sort of ‘superrage’ because of a particular kind of acne creme. He uses this rage and the strength he got along with it to join an underground fightclub and to simultaneously get back at his brother for taking his things all these years.

After watching the first episode I can certainly say my fears came true. I actually had to persuade myself to watch the entire episode, and afterwards all I could think was: ‘well, that’s thirty minutes of my life wasted’. I can’t begin to describe all the bad things about this show. I’m guessing the monotone way everyone in the show speaks is supposed to be funny, but actually it’s annoying. So is the story, and the way the characters are drawn. Therefore, I can’t see this show becoming funny, ever.
