"Christ Is Risen!" for Choir and Piano
"Christ Is Risen!" is a small hymn I wrote many years ago and now is arranged as a jubilant choral work for Easter. Arranged for choir and piano, as well as for organ/piano and choir.
Words and music by Daniel Carter
Arranged by Daniel Carter
Christ is risen! Christ is risen!
Man, by Him is freed from prison!
Death is rended, fear is ended.
From the tomb, New Life ascends!
Tell the story! Tell the story!
All the earth shall know His glory!
From corruption, From death’s dark end,
Rises man’s eternal Friend!
Raise your voices! Raise your voices!
All the universe rejoices!
All creation joins to sing praise.
Every tongue confess His name!

"Long Ago, Within a Garden" Arranged for SAB Choir and Piano, and for Female/Male Duet or Two-part Chorus
Devan Jensen brought new Easter lyrics to me and said that he hoped I would consider setting them to a familiar tune for his church choir to sing. I didn't like the tune at all with his nice lyrics, so I asked if I could try my hand at an original melody and arrange that for choir. Arranged as a female/male duet, it can also be performed as a two-part choral piece. It's fairly easy to learn, very memorable melody, with a great Easter message
Words by Devan Jensen
Music by Daniel Carter
Long ago, within a garden,
Adam tasted of a tree;
Death would be our awful burden;
Only One could set us free.
Chorus:
Alleluia, alleluia,
Jesus came to set us free!
Lamb of God and true Messiah,
Song of joy we raise to thee!
Jesus came to win a pardon
For us in Gethsemane,
Humbly suffering in a garden,
And crucified on Calvary.
Chorus
In a tomb within a garden,
People went to where He lay;
Angels told them, "He is risen"
On that glorious Easter day.
Chorus
Come to Christ and be forgiven;
Taste the fruit of Father's tree,
Sweetest fruit of all His garden,
Dwell with Him eternally.
Chorus

"That Brightest Dawn" for SAB Mixed Chorus and Piano
About 1977 I started working on an Easter Cantata based on John 6 of the New Testament. There were several versions and revisions for the next several years. But in 1987 The Bread of Life cantata was premiered and then was performed each year for the next 15 years by choirs all over the US and Canada. One of the most popular pieces from the cantata is That Brightest Dawn.
Words and music by Daniel Carter
The angel said, "O fear not ye,
For ye seek Christ the crucified.
Come see the place, He is not here;
For He has risen as he said."
That brightest dawn so long ago
Renewed all life because He rose,
And all that stir, and all that breathe
Shall live again because He lives.
They scourged and scorned my loving Lord.
They spat and cast on him platted thorns.
And yet he spake as nails pierced through,
"Forgive them, they know not what they do."
That brightest dawn so long ago
Renews all life because I know
He lived for me and marked the way.
He died, but rose that brightest day
That I may live with Him again.

I Believe in Jesus Christ
An arrangement of the beloved Bach/Gounod Ave Maria, this arrangement provides a different text focused on the life of Jesus Christ.
Words by Daniel Carter
Music by J. S. Bach and Charles Gounod
Arranged by Daniel Carter
I believe in Jesus Christ.
He who paid my debt of sin;
Mercy to mankind extend;
He whose perfect life provides my path.
I believe in Christ divine.
Restorer of the light sublime.
I renew my faith,
Renew my will to follow Him.
I trust in the Savior!
Submit to the Savior;
My Savior shall give me strength to bear my strife,
Guide my footsteps with His light,
Lead me into life, eternal life,
And I shall rest in His love forever more.
For I believe in Christ.

A New Musical Setting for "The King of Love My Shepherd Is"
Words by Henry W. Baker
Music by Daniel Carter
The King of love my Shepherd is,
Whose goodness faith never;
I nothing lack if I am His,
And He is mine forever.
Where streams of living water flow,
My ransomed soul He leadeth,
And where the verdant pastures grow,
With food celestial feedeth.
Perverse and foolish, oft I strayed,
But yet in love he sought me,
And on His shoulder gently laid,
And home rejoicing brought me.
In death's dark vale I fear no ill
With thee, dear Lord, beside me;
Thy rod and staff my comfort still,
Thy light befre to guide me.
Thou spread'st a table in my sight,
Thy blessing grace bestoweth,
And on the transport of delight,
With which my cup o'er floweth.
And so through all the length of days
Thy goodness faith never;
Good Shepherd, may I sing thy praise
Within Thy house forever.

There Is a Green Hill Far Away, for SATB Choir and Piano
Words by Cecil Frances Alexander
Music by John H. Gower
There is a green hill far away,
Without a city wall
Where our dear Lord was crucified;
Who died to save us all.
We may not know, We cannot tell,
What pains he had to bear,
But we believe it was for us;
He hung and suffered there.
There was no other good enough,
To pay the price of sin;
He only could unlock the gate,
Of heav’n and let us in.
Oh dearly, dearly has he loved,
And we must love him too;
And trust in his redeeming blood,
And try his work to do.

The Lord Is My Shepherd for SATB Choir and Piano
Words by James Montgomery, adapted from Pslam 23
Music by Thomas Koschat
Arranged by Daniel Carter
The Lord is my Shepherd, no want shall I know;
I feed in green pastures, safe-folded I rest;
He leadeth my soul where the still waters flow,
Restores me when wand’ring, redeems when oppressed;
Restores me when wand’ring, redeems when oppressed.
Through the valley and shadow of death though I stray,
Since Thou art my Guardian, no evil I fear;
Thy rod shall defend me, Thy staff be my stay;
No harm can befall, with my Comforter near;
No harm can befall, with my Comforter near.
In the midst of affliction my table is spread;
With blessings unmeasured my cup runneth o’er;
With perfume and oil Thou anointest my head;
O what shall I ask of Thy providence more?
O what shall I ask of Thy providence more?
Let goodness and mercy, my bountiful God,
Still follow my steps till I meet Thee above;
I seek by the path which my ancestors trod,
Through the land of their sojourn, thy kingdom of love;
Through the land of their sojourn, thy kingdom of love.
