I'm a lover of arts and culture of all genres. Once a dancer, now a writer, I still bop and pop when no one is watching. Wink! Wink!

Welcome to the Strange and Macabre...

Performance art is a collaborative art form often expressing political or topical themes, usually presented live to an audience sometimes with or without audience participation. Originating in the 1970s as a fusion of several artistic media, non traditional performance art incorporates many mediums and may include random or orchestrated; painting, film, poetry, video, music, drama, costume, regalia and dance.

Macabre: Examination of the Dark and Grim Aspects of Society and Life

Dark Surreal Art For Sale

Macabre Gallery was the first art gallery specializing in dark surreal art, since 2009. If you are an alternative art enthusiast and want to find different works of art, that inspire you new sensations, then you are in the right place. In this gallery you can enjoy the artworks by emerging or renowned artists specialising in dark surreal art.

Do not just look at the work: everything is more spiritual and philosophical than a simple image. These paintings and sculptures talk about our deepest and darkest feelings, our fears and our relationship with death; others tell stories, others talk about sex, and some have controversial messages. Whatever the message, they all make us stop and think about ourselves. I hope this art gallery will let you discover new sensations and your own meaning.

Impact by Impression: Performance Art as Protest and Activism

Performance art may also be presented with very political tones and topics and often use strong visuals, symbolism, costume and dramatic action to communicate protestations and social activism. Protest art creates thoughtfulness on a subject and leaves a lasting impression with the audience where peaceful protests through the streets or sit ins, utilize signage and banners and large gatherings as visual demonstration by groups. It provokes emotional reactions in the observer in attempt to educate and persuade.

The best aspects about protest performance art is it is affordable and easy to teach and produce, being used as a tool for political and artistic communication all over the world and can through non linguistics transcend language and culture through use of colors, costume, movement, symbolism and action exactly like the G8 Summit Zombie Protest against Capitalism.

Zombies are Real! They are Us! Freaks of Capitalism.

One observes the zombies en mass, most being familiar with zombie culture in television and horror film genres. For instance, through television series like Van Helsing and The Walking Dead, the image of the zombie is perceived as a grey, brainless, non thinking alien thing incapable of thought, only consumption, consumption and consumption and leaving bloody destruction and waste in their wasteful path.

The protest performance artists immediately draw upon these images and ideas through their costume and dramatic portrayal of dead people en mass, bones creaking, as a slap in the face to capitalism creating a mass working class of dead like slaves around the world. It is probably a more effective message to the world, than a crowd of protesters with various signage and inaudible shouting in the streets.

But, nonetheless, there is risk here and the protesters were dispersed with water cannon by police which seems extremely unnecessary but demonstrates a lack of comprehension or respect by police of freedom of public expression even in other parts of the world. Notice how the water cannon disbursement to scatter protesters away from the G8 Summit is conveniently left out of the online videos by media.

Mass Censorship?
