Plum Sauce vs. Soda Pop

Updated on January 28, 2015

ocfireflies is a retired teacher. She graduated from Appalachian State University with a B.S. in English/Secondary Education.

Two of my favorite TV characters are Abby from NCIS and Penelope from CRIMINAL MINDS. These ladies epitomize individuality. I think that is pretty cool!

Celebrating Individuality

Are you obsessed with NCIS?

Can you tat a tattoo?

Perhaps, you prefer baubles, bubble gum, feathers and rouge.

Either way, you can't go wrong.

You can choose Abby

in pigtails, hair parted perfectly straight

so shiny

black and slick.

Or you can choose Penelope

curls and swirls

clickety quick.

It does not matter

which girl you pick.

It is okay if

Abby fits your style

skulls and studs

metal and Goth

if like Penelope

you enjoy

tassels and strings,

red velvet cake

among other things.

Each rocks her own coolness

so glorious and free.

Both memorable and covert--

special forces

everyone can see

specializing in recognizance

turning night into day

with heart and soul

for all that is good

Penelope and Abby

eradicate evil

as we all should.

If given the chance,

I would love to see

just what it's like

to be one of them

instead of me.

To have the courage

to be who I am

to fight injustice

to have my own lab.

From this night on...

I'm going to dream

what it would be like

to be happy

to be free

wearing what I want

saying what I say

embracing life

for all to see

I am who I am

I have got to be me!

Plum Sauce vs. Soda Pop

Which character do you relate to the most?

See results

It is never too late. Go on. Go your own way!

      Hey Genna,

Hope you are having a wonderful New Year. Love it when I touch an inner psyche. Smiles.

I’ve never watched NCIS, but I’ve watched Criminal Minds, and Penelope is one of the reasons I do. Loved this poem…just a great way to view life for each of us. You have also chosen one of my individual theme songs…I looove this song and have for years. :-) You touched my inner psyche, Kim. Touche, my friend. I’m so sorry to hear you aren’t feeling well. Consider yourself hugged…and I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you. I love them for the same reason. Hoping you are hsving a great New Year.

Aww Kim! Loved this--and I love both of them--I guess because they are so out of the typical female role on tv!

Thank You. My son introduced me to "First Aid kit." And I have become a big fan. So nice to see you. Hoping you are having a wonder New Year.

      Missed you.

What a creative hub, Kim. I love your poem. I don't watch either TV show, but from what I have read here, I think I'm a Penelope type of gal. You, Kim, are wonderful and unique just the way you are. No need to be someone else. LOL!

      Greetings Arachnea,

Thanks for stopping by and leaving such a nice comment.

      Dear wordd55,

Glad to see you, too. Thanks for not forgetting me.

      Dear Faith,

So wonderful to finally produce a hub. When I think of people I know who have such love in their hearts as Abby and Penelope I think of you.

I, too have wondered about how these ladies are in real life. In doing the hub, I cam across some pics of Abby out of her NCIS character and she just gorgeous. Thank you for not forgetting me and always being so supportive.

      Dear John,

I have missed you! Thank you for the well wishes. My mom has cancer and that is why I am often away for periods at a time for I am taking care of her. With being sick as well, it has been really tough, but hoping to find out more next week. Hugs from NC to you and thank you for the vote.

      Dear Marilyn,

Greetings. Your kind words are so much welcomed and appreciated. Thank you for reading and leaving such nice comments.

      Dear Patty,

I had no idea that Abby was anywhere close to mid-forties. You are right. She wears it well. Thanks so much for reading.

      Dear Minnetonka Twin,

So awesome to hear I made you smile. Both of these characters as so cool. And yes, they are the icing on the cake. What an excellent way of describing them.

Happy New Year to all. Wishing you blessings in the coming year. Thank You. Thank You. I was afraid I had been forgotten. I will see you soon at your hub stations.

      With Love and Appreciation,

Your poem about two awesome women, really made me smile :) I watch both shows and love these two women. Their icing on the cake for good crime shows. Nice writing :)

      Abby, Abby, Abby!

Can you believe she is 45 (46 in March '15)? She must have begun NCIS 15 years ago, or almost. Great actress and character.

Good evening, Kim; excellent. These are two of my favorite characters as well. Each is unique, but more importantly, each has heart and empathy. I have poet envy so I'll own it. What a wonderful tribute and written as a poem, couldn't be better. ~Marilyn

Happy New year Kim. I have missed you around here. Sorry to hear you have been ill, I hope things are improving and you get some answers. This is a very enjoyable hub. I love your poem and tribute to Abby and Penelope. I adore Abby, a very quirky but interesting and attractive character. Penelope is good too but they are very different but expert at what they do.

Keep dancing to your own's a catchy tune. Voted up. Hugs from Australia.

      Hi Kim,

Oh, how delightful and creative! Well, I could not vote in your poll as I just love both of these wonderful characters here. They are so different, yet they are their own unique selves, one cannot help but to love them. Makes one wonder what they are truly like in real life ...probably totally different they we imagine I suspect. Wouldn't this world be so boring if we were all alike! Thank you for being YOU.

Thank You. It is going as well as it can. I have been pretty sick and even hospitalized. Next week, I have doctor appts and hoping to get some answers. Thanks for being you.

I am sure there is no lab tech cooler than you. Thanks for stopping by...

I am familiar with both of those characters even though I don't watch neither of those shows too much. But I would like to add that one of the reasons they are awesome characters is because they are Lab Techs and Lab Techs are the coolest people I know. I am happy to read some of your poetry and to know that you are writing. Jamie

I loved that Kim, it was splendid. I watch N.C.I.S. all of the time and I really enjoy Abby. I think all of the characters 'go their own way' - except maybe McGee (I am not sure about him). I voted this up, shared and pinned it.

I'm so silly. I thought this was going to be a recipe article. I should have known better. :) I love NCIS...and I love Abbs....lots of love because I love your creativity and your poetry....whew, all this love has worn me out.

      Have a great Wednesday, Kim!
